Pass my good luck to your son, Rian, and keep some for yourself as well. I think you will make the right choice, even though it looks like a difficult one.

Ciao, truthiscool - welcome to Entmoot. If you find yourself easily confused about what is "going on" from one thread to the next, my advice to you is this: Read the thread, from the beginning preferably, and familiarise yourself with what is "going on" in that thread. It's not that hard. Usually, the explanation of the gist of a thread is given in the thread's first opening post, and in its very title. Also - listen, kiddo, can I give you a tidbit of friendly newbie advice? What's up with the signature? It brings a really distasteful image to the mind - I'm just sayin'. Might want to think about having something other than accidental pooping in your siggie! Just thought someone oughtta tell you. Hey, by the way, who is your favourite Lord of the Rings character? What did you think of the books, and have you seen the movies, too?
Rian - maybe he could wear the brace for like six months, to see if any improvement happens in that time. I broke my back badly, four years ago; my T-12 vertebrae was completely disintegrated, and part of my long, long recovery process involved having to wear this awful back-brace contraption for a whole year. I wasn't terribly disciplined about keeping that brace on, though; my bestr friend who was taking care of me at the time, used to gently harrass me constantly about keeping the bloody brace on, but the more time went by, the less I wanted to deal with wearing that monstrosity. Now I wish I'd been more disciplined about wearing it, because my spine healed back kind of crooked, where it could have healed much better if I'd been more conscientious and worn the brace every full day like I was supposed to. My thoughts go out to your son, Rian. You are no DOUBT an excellent momma; you'll make the best decision!

My ex-health teacher had a back brace for a while as a kid. Hard to beleive, the way he towers over everyone.

thanks, Chrys! *takes a sip* Ahh, hits the spot! You know a lot about backs, too, don't ya?! How's yours doing? I hope not too much pain lately. And how are the dogs?
thanks for the input and thoughts, Lotesse, and I hope your back isn't too bad now. Rather necessary things, backs!! We're gonna head over to Children's Hospital for another opinion - we're fortunate to have some great orthopedic doctors in the area. The tough call with him is that he has multiple orthopedic issues - it's not a straightforward thing. And we're talking 6 years of wearing it (until he's 16, which is pretty much when growth stops) - it's hard to put a kid in a brace for 6 years, 24/7 (with only 2 hours off a day), when you're not sure if it will help much or not - it might just be congenital deformities that can't be fixed by a brace. Then we're looking at surgery after he's finished growing, to make it as straight as possible. Anyway, maybe you LA guys will get to meet him some day, he's such a cutie!

Tea and scones for everyone! I was going to make my famous white choc. chip scones for Valentine's day, and add pink "hard sauce" frosting on top, but ran out of time - so I'll make them virtually and put them on a table here for all to try - have at 'em! (I'll let you guys know how they turned out in RL when I get around to making them)

Why do I get the feeling that you really need that sleep? G'night to you. Here, 'tis half past nine in the morning, and I should go to the library to read what's due for Monday... but it's raining outside, I'll be soaked on my way to the uni. Blergh. But, on the other hand, rain and not snow - means the weather is slowly warming. At last.
