(for those of you who have not read JRRT's Silmarillion, I'm referring to how in the Silmarillion, Fingon has to cut off the hand of Maedhros to get him down from the cliff.)

Amusing bit of news. Embladyne, me, and a couple friends are starting a band called Scatha the Wyrm. And we found a pretty Irish song that fits perfectly with the Fall of Gil-Galad... so you can guess the rest.
