It is called a mantis shrimp. This particular specimen is Odontodactylus scyllarus, also called the peacock mantis shrimp, painted mantis shrimp or (my favorite) harlequin mantis shrimp.

It is indeed awesome. Very fun animals to work with. the only one i ever did was (2 really) this couple of them we caught in NC.

*sigh* sadly no octopi right now. I have a small 29 gallon reef tank here, but not much in it.

-a maroon clownfish
-a pearly jawfish
-a psychedelic dragonet
-a small condy anemone
-2 redback skunk shrimp
-1 crimson shrimp
-some margarita snails
-some nassarius snails
-some nerite snails
-some cerith snails
-and an arrow crab

wow. That's alot of fish! No-wonder you have your own aquarium here. All I've ever had was a couple of gold-fish. One died the day after I got him and the other lived for 6 years.

Yeah, goldfish are kind of hit and miss. I find saltwater far mor rewarding than freshwater, though. But that really is a matter of preference.

Were y'all aware that fish tanks need to have water added, occasionally? If you don't the heating element winds up over the water level and explodes.

Me is reading too, but the articles are very poorly written IMO... some scholars could really use some lessons in persuasive argumenting and using/quoting sources. >_<

yeah, maybe.

At least half the time I found professors preferred you to know only as little as they provided you with. Any knowledge over that tended to get one in trouble.
