Keith’s 5-star guide to Middle Earth Eateries
(or, Where can I get a decent meal around here?)

From Elrond’s table to Barliman’s bar,
or the galley of Eambar in the Land of the Star;
not the buttery of Targon nor Beorning bread,
could even this score or settle this debt.
Yet a few captured gleanings laid out in a spread,
nothing green but some weeds (and all of them dead)
were all that was needed yes, this meal did rate,
even though the deliveries have been sporadic of late.

Here is a reposting of an unsolved riddle:

Live and Learn in Middle Earth
Fangs of the darkness will turn on and bite you.
In sleeping lies weakness, you’ll leave them to fight you.

thanks for the grats... i will admit that i probably would not have gotten it without the circles clue

on the fangs... it makes me think of Carcharoth (fangs, sleep, leaving the fight for later)

Here's a little ditty that should be easy enough to solve:

As clear as clean water, it works from bottom on up,
curling your hair from the dregs of your cup.
When you travel the earth, you will go far
if ever you sample this growth from a jar.

Ent draught it is! Nice try with the miruvor guess SGH, I suppose that it could work as the answer as well.

nope, it's not the spiders. Hmm, I didn't think that that riddle would be too difficult but it seems like it is working out pretty good!

Yes, the meal settled the "debt" that Gimli held against Merry and Pippen for his pains in trying to save them from the orcs of Isengard. The dead weeds of course refer to pipeweed that followed the meal.

Ooooh - baby! I'm feelin' HOT today! If only I can get the "fangs" one now...

Yes - I even forgot about the pipe-weed: it was the "captured" and "deliveries... sporadic of late" that tipped me! Could NOT come up with this yesterday.

Even took an "ent" riddle... just lucky Earniel isn't around, I'd guess! I coulda used some "ent-draught" myself... I'm 5'-11" - and I figure a little sip woulda pushed me over the 6' mark!

Fangs... I'll keep thinkin' about it, but really now, how many of Middle Earth's creatures DON'T have fangs??! That riddle also has the advantage of being short... so it gives less opportunity for an alternate clue if you fail to pick up on one or two, I guess.

Another little riddle:

This wandering Elf sent by Cirdan the Wise,
sought proof for the origin of a great prize.

Yes, devilishly clever of me eh? Not much there for you to "chew" on. (groan).

Gimli

The two elves that ran into Tuor before he met Voronwe?

Fangs? I have no Idea, except the wolf that ate Berens hand, Carakarkas, or whatever....

Voronwe, Shelob and the wolf are all incorrect for their corresponding riddles. I'm beginning to like my fangs riddle more with each passing hour! Never thought it would get so much mileage!
