Lake-Town is located on Long Lake which is between Mirkwood, and (for a long while), a fire breathing dragon infested mountain. As a trading center it would be laden with goods, and was built over water, (the source of the River Running).

You deduced that quite well, Val old pal.

Okay, this isn't one of my best, but it does appear in a notable position.

(drum roll, please)

Presenting Keith K's One Hundred Fiftieth original riddle:

How Deep Is My Valley?

Invaders from the valley red
kill the men and take the dead.

Many thanks to the folks at Entmoot for providing this outlet for some of my creative energy!

Yea, something about Fea-brats, other Elves or hobbits will do it. Utterly boring for me.

Arnor edged.
Gondor pledged.
Earned its weight
by Mordor Gate.

An excellent guess, Anduril was present at the Black Gate for a battle, but it is not the correct answer. Anduril was not forged in Arnor, but rather was made in Beleriand, as Narsil. Also, the Kingdom of Arnor was no more when that sword was reforged.

At least, that is my best reckoning at the moment.

I do hope you will try again.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Pippin's barrow-sword. I particularly like that riddle, Keith, it's short but it really flows nicely.

Thank you for the compliment, Earniel. You are of course correct. The answer is Pippin's barrow sword, also called Troll's Bane.

It was edged (forged) in Arnor, and later pledged to the service of Gondor after Pippin acquired it. He then took it with him to the Battle of the Morannon where he slew a Hill-Troll captain with it.

Twice titled Lord of the West.
Brought by fear to abandon the blessed.

An excellent guess, TDPR. Manwe is indeed the one true Lord of the West. But he wasn't twice titled as such.

Thank you for your participation, and please guess again if you will.

I agree, it really should be.
You would really think that I could solve these. Like, you passed some of your skill on to me or something. I'm always left clueless

Okay, I will consider changing the sig gig. As for the other, the more you read, the more you know.
