Kiitos, Grey Wolf! I was only going to have Germanic languages (because the Indonesian or Chinese equivalents are odd- Kaum Orang Swedia sedang datang does not have quite the same ring to it) but the more the merrier! Last edited by Linaewen : 01-07-2004 at 06:33 AM. |

Jag tycker om denna ordbok, Ruinel. Den är mycket användbar, och har många ordförklaringar. Man kan också finna många snuskiga ord där.
I like this dictionary, Ruinel. It's very useful, and has many definitions. You can also find many dirty words there. Such as 'skitsnack'. Have you already heard of it? I thought it'd be right up your alley. Last edited by Linaewen : 01-11-2004 at 08:17 AM. |

No, I think Groda could be a name of one of the Rohirrim and Grodingel could even be an (albeit funny) Elven name.
frogs... *happy sigh*

Ruinel, you found some interesting words there.. Do you collect tadpoles? I think it would sound a bit strange for us swedish-speaking people, if Tolkien had named orcs, elves or people in the Rohirrim to groda and grodyngel... Imagine, that their names would be frog and tadpole! Ha en underbar kväll!

One of the Rohirrim, Gamling, already has a Swedish-sounding name. Gamling means old man
In the movie theatres people giggled when Théoden called for Gamling

Nope, Gandalf is a dwarf in the Edda (afaik). It means "Elf with magic staff" or similar.

Back to topic: I can throw in a couple of different languages here.
Jeg er norsk! Og ikke spesielt dum heller(denne var til svenskene med sine norbaggare-vitser) I am norwegian! And not very stupid. - this is for the swedish Ich bin Norwegisch! Und nicht sehr doof. - Or something like this Eu sou noruegesa! Eu não fala portuguese. -A bit portuguese. I don´t speak much. At least not yet, but I´m getting there! |

Out of Grey Wolf's list: Björn = Bear
I bet that's where the Beornings come from.
