My letter to ESPN....

Can you please tell your ignorant announcer to pronouce our state properly? Twice he has said JOISEY. It is NOT JOISEY - only Naw Yawkers pronounce our state improperly and I would appreciate it if you would stop perpetuating this negative stereotype to all the world. I didn't hear any of the announcers during the Senators game doing fake Canadian accents or doing "eh" or "aboot".

New Jersey is a great place - and your announcers seem to want to give this very negative image of our state to all the world. I am very tired of the constant New Jersey bashing the New York media loves to do.

Now that the score is 3-0 your announcers seem almost disappointed.

hockey = pointless dangerous sport. i do not see the thrill in watching complete strangers play a dumb game. they probably get paid more in a year than a great majority of us will ever have at one time (possibly, i don't really know. at any rate they get paid waay too much).

i can understand rooting for people you know, a school team, college team, maybe even state team (stretching it).... but other than that not really.

Sports (and only some) are fun for me only when I play them with friends... not really a fan of a lot of sports.

Sure, watching live sporting events is fun. I've been to several pro baseball games - it was exciting (the whole atmostphere), even though I did not know all that was going on.

Sports on tv = deathly dull = who cares??? Why are these idiot jocks getting paid so much?

just some of my opinions. not thouroughly thought out tonight as i am very tired...but i am definitely not a sports fan.

Also - to let you know Hobbit I AM cheering on a STATE team - OUR STATE. You know - the NEW JERSEY Devils. If the devils weren't in it - then I would couldn't care less. It's new JERSEY I root for - pure and simple. Not the players. You're a New Jersey - and outr teams being in the NBA Championship AND the Stanley Cup Finals - IS a BIG deal. I hope you support your home state.

dont know if this has been talked about but one of the best goalies ever has retired, patrick roy, personally i think this is good for him but i forgot to mention hes CANADIAN as is MARTIN BRODEUR and JEAN SEBASTIEN GIGUERE

people watch for the excitment of seeing the greatest athletes in the world compete against each other.

i agree they are WAY too over paid but thats the way it is but people watch it for the pride of their team or just because they love the sport. oh and im pretty sure not all of them are idiot jocks

No way! they are NOT the greatest athletes in the world, because hocket is not the best sport in the world, therefore hockey players can not be the best athletes.

In all seriousness, the series is not over, I would think that ANA will need to win the next two games to have a realistic chance of winning the Stanley Cup.

(This may be a case of NJ out playing ANA at the same game.)

Hockey is one of the more demanding sports (to play)in the world. (As some commercials point out: you try to do your job on ice. )

In USA of 4 major sports, (Baseball, Football, Basketball, and Hockey), hockey is generally considered the 4th sport. (Still cannot figure who play Basketball. )

I agree with JD about the annoyance of announcers and other media that perpetuate the stereotype against the state of NJ. If the same degree of stereotyping was directed at an ethnic group it would not be tolerated/accepted. (nor should it be tolerated/accepted)

On WFAN (local sports talk show of NYC) they constantly lump NJ NETS/Devils with NY teams. {Actually the NY Jets and NY Giants [NFL] play in NJ as well, but are still refered as being from NY}

Nothing is perfect, but if nothing is done it is hard to expect things to change.

You mean referred to as NY teams - instead of their ACTUAL home - NJ.

I won't root for the Giants and Jets - it was a slap in the face to New Jersey for them to put NY on their uniforms. If they want to be New York teams then they should go back across the river and play where they used to play - Yankee and Shea Stadiums.

The Giants won several Super Bowls in New Jersey and New York refused to give them ticker tape parades or anything - becuase they said they weren't NY teams (which is true).

Also - WABC pissed me off last year. All of a sudden after the Nets started winning - they started referring to them as a New YORK area team. When they were losing - they would barely mention them or make snide comments.

Nothing is perfect, but if nothing is done it is hard to expect things to change.

My thoughts exactly - that's why when people say that writing letters to ESPN or sports announcers won't do anything - I tell them with that attitide we'd still be owned by Britain. if you don't take a stand NOTHING will change.
