Bah humbug! Maybe this is true of American beer, but good beer is a friend indeed.

You may not, but a lot of other Christians do.
I know it's a case of "love the sinner, hate the sin", but for most gays that "sin" is a fundamental part of who they are- so when you face social disapproval simply for being what you are, naturally you'll tend to head out for some place that is more tolerant.

And of course, it's not confined to Christians- most other countries are far worse.

My small town in Taiwan is the most backwards, backwoods place in the whole country- you never see gays here- except about the third day after Chinese New Year, where our one and only disco has a heavy scattering- all the locals who have lit out for the big city and come back to spend the holidays with their families, until they can't stand the "when are you going to get married and have children?" questions anymore.

The point is that inked's statistics showing that there are more gays in big cities has nothing to do with "nature vs. nurture" in the sense that good decent rural places don't produce gays- any more than they don't produce artists, drug addicts, scientists, punk rockers or anyone else who doesn't fit in with the local society/economy. All of those types are over-represented in urban settings because they leave their roots and head for places where there's more opportunity, for good or ill.

And, even if you are gay, and living in a society that condemns your "sin", you might tend to deny it- even to yourself, a la Brokeback Mountain's "I ain't no queer"

Ahaha, I am the Grammar Nazi!

Ben Franklin is cool, especially if he really did say that quote. Did he really?

I completely agree with what you say here. And you said it so eloquently too!

I think Inked's statistics are still relevant, but one does have to consider the social factors that you mentioned. What the study is really showing is how many gay people that will say they're gay on a survey there are in cities and towns. Maybe with further studies you could try to estimate the number of actual gay people from this number. However, this should be determined for curiosity's sake. The number of gay people that exist doesn't have any implications on rightness/wrongness/naturalness/etc. of homosexuality.

He didnt actually. He actually said it about wine not beer. But its still probably the most popular quote about beer in the world. Although I prefer Kaiser Wilhelm's statement "Find me a woman who loves beer and I will concur the world." Makes for a great t shirt.

Really? He actually said it about wine? That really makes my day; I'm much more fond of wine than (even good) beer.

I really need a statistical analysis of this bit of liberal projectionism and I'd like it to be a rigorous as all the other dissections my articles have undergone!

Most Gay Anglicans Live in the Global South

Here's a statitician analysis:

What do you think of the articles and why. Answer in your own words. There will be extra-credit for neat penmanship/penwomanship/pengayship/penbiship/pentransgenderedship/penpolyamoryship/etc.

Apparently, they can be orientation-specific.

I would also point out, BB, that whilst we poke fun at inked for his typo, you have made one of your own. "Distincly"?

You know, many people have asked about my exact sexual orientation, and because it is uncouth to continuously talk about one's self (one could go on and on about one's orientation) I generally say "Just queer is all."

Oh, I see the spelling sturmtruppers are out - again! Why don't they stay in the closet? We all know that spelling orientation is a genetic trait anyway, right .

Now, the grammarians, I can tolerate.

... the smelling sturmtruppers?

Funny...i always imagined them rather like German dementors with sweeping sinister black cloaks and highly polished Nazi style liddle tin gramma hats ... distinigilly unable to smell ...

...more to the point is this closet some sort of tardis machine? ...i mean how do they move it around all the time in space and time like that to storm out of in different times and places at the drop of a conconent ?

The grammarians? I always imagined them as being like the Cyborgs, but slightly less rigid...
