You got me there. I wasn't even thinking of Maedhros - just Gandalf on Orthanc.

Keith K - I really like it when you come around and riddle us.

Upon a high hill overlooking the haven
a crystal crowned pillar stands tall and white.
Reflecting sunlight and moonlight to be seen from afar.
A monument to a mariner, leader of a mighty host.
In memory of victory over great evil.
Cast down when evil returned.

Editors Note: To correctly solve the riddle you must name the haven where the monument stood, and what event it commemorated.

Well, we're even then. I had forgotten about Orthanc.

What Am I? (and who do I belong to?)

My purpose within moon-runes lies,
(a setting sun is in the sky).
The moon as well has come to play,
(I only work on Durins' Day).
Use me quickly, you must rush,
(when you hear the knocking thrush).

Here's a riddle. Fresh from my Riddling Room...

Who Am I?

I’m old, and insane, can’t remember my name.
To revenge do I cling, driven mad by the ring.

Dis one is twisted. Gotta be. The answer can't be Gollum/Smeagol. That's too damn easy! Slow down, Keith K. Let us solve the present rids first.

Haven of Umbar. Monument to commemorate the landing of the Numenorean fleet and Ar-Pharazon's victory over Sauron in SA 3261

How in da heck did you know that? The first time I ran that riddle I had to practically give the answer away as nobody was even close!

Good one, Gordis!

Correct! Gollum was the misdirection answer. The true answer remains hidden.

Care to try again?

Would that be Thrain, father of Thorin?

A Key? The Key that Gandalf got from Thrain and gave to Thorin at the Unexpected Party at Bilbo's house?

He's the one, alright. Formally known as Thrain II, his ring was taken from him in torment by the Necromancer.

Well done, Val!

Exactly. The answer is Thorin's Key. Good one, Val!

Not sure what's gotten into me, what with this recent Dwarvish kick and all...

We Know A Secret.

The dwarves would walk the wide world over
Meeting folk of many kinds.
They crafted iron, silver, and gold
And proudly spoke their minds.

Yet there was a secret they held close;
No other race could discover.
For they used it only among themselves
And kept it from all others.

I know a secret...

Their language, and/or "true" names.

Here's a riddle for y'all to interpret:

From deep in the forest it came.
It traveled the wide world, south, west, and north.
Even to Mordor it came before its fall.
Blessed it was, by the Great.
Plain it was, and unadorned, save for silver runework.
Small it was, yet containing a power within.
A power for healing, a power for growth.
The germ of a new beginning,
and memory of that which once was.

The little box with Lorien soil given to Sam by Galadriel? It was marked by rune "G" and went all the way to Mordor.

Your love of Umbar has sure served you well here in the Riddling Thread. That cannot be denied!

Sam's box is the solution to the riddle, so well done there.

While we're on the subject of "riddling on", allow me to submit the following submission...

Long it lay between fire and wood.
Running on water, and laden with goods.
