yeah, that's kinda weird as well as very hard - but what a blessing that you can spare him pain down the road. Just make these last few days really good, with lots of good memories. My dog is 11 now and getting cloudy-eyed, although otherwise in good health - I feel for you - we all do

Tessar I'm so sorry and praying for you. I have two dogs of my own and don't know what I would do if I had to put them down.

Oh for #$(%)#'s sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woken up this morning to the sound of my mom yelling, "SOMEONE HELP ME."
Go tearing down the stairs and everything's fine. She hit the old dog with the door by accident on the way out, which knocked him over and she thought she couldn't get him up. So she starts yelling, "someone help me," like she's fallen down the stairs or is having a heart attack or something. I'm not sure how much more stress my brain can handle, at the moment. This week is winding up to be another slap, it appears. Great. |

Aw. Not the best way to get up in the morning, I know.
I've been yanked out of bed like that for mere mice a few times now. Although the time I woke up after a (very) late night to a screaming mother and a tiny flapping bird amidst our three very interested cats was pretty epic...

Voronwen, do not be depressed for too long at the loss of your relationship. Whether we like to think about it or not, loved ones may come or go, but God is always with us.

Yes, and right now i still have hope that God can revive it. After all where there's life, there's hope.

And, I should say, there is hope whether or not God revives it. As the truism goes, there are always more fish in the sea. As is said rather less often, but no less truly, romantic relationships are not, by any means, the only relationships in which we find meaning.

Well today my mom's dog peed alllllllll over the kitchen and I, being the first one home for once, cleaned it up. We think he's thrown up the last couple of days. He's just having problems lately.
Maybe it really is time. He'll be going to sleep this weekend... it's kind of hard to look at him and know that his time is up and we all know it but he doesn't. I'm glad I don't have to make the choice, because I don't know that I could. On the one hand, he's 14 and that's far past a greyhound's expected life span. But when I look at him all I see is a puppy that doesn't understand why he can't run very far, or why it's so hard for him to get up. Maybe it's really for the best. |

No, no, no che non sei capace!
No, no, no, truly you know nothing of honor! Or faith, or kindness, Nothing! And yet you boast in blindness ardor and love for me No, no, no, truly you know nothing Leave me! Oh how you grieve me. For I despise you And find myself more hateful Such love for me was fateful So brief my admiration, My sighs and adoration What could my heart foresee? Ah, ill-starred me, Ah me! What could my foolish heart foresee? Ah me!

Well, it's done. Lock is gone. 14 year-old greyhound, and we had him for 11 good years... he had a great run. Lived much, much longer than most greyhounds do.
I'm not as upset as I thought I would be, but it's very sad all the same. My mom's taking it very, very hard. She starts to cry if she thinks about him, and that's hard to see. I asked if she was okay, and she said she was but it made her feel really old. I can understand that. I'm a little worried about my dog, though. She's just sort of walking around the house, like she usually does, but she seems upset. I'm hoping she'll just forget about Lock pretty quickly... she's such an attention hog that I'm hoping she'll actually be happier now that she's the only dog. Right now maybe she's just concerned because she can't figure out where he went. |

*hug* Yeah. Not a pleasant experience, but glad you are holding out well and focusing on the positive. I hope Rosie does well, and doesn't settle into a funk.

@ Tessar
(and at your dog as well - she may miss the other, but I expect she'll settle eventually)

I'm sure Lock couldn't have spent those eleven years any better than he did

Thanks guys. My dog seems to have recovered completely, and is calmer now that she's not competing for attention. My mom is doing well too. She said that when they administered the shot, as he was going under, Lock just suddenly relaxed and looked happier and more peaceful than she'd seen him in years.
I'm anxious today. I have my first accounting test... sort of feels like my first chance to see if I can actually hack it as a business major. I'm pretty scared. My sister thinks I'll do well because I've got the terminology down absolutely cold, but my dad was very non-committal... I'm not sure he thinks I can do it. My nervousness comes from the fact that for our first project I got totally lost and had to have someone sit down with me and help me through every single step from start to finish. :-/ But at least now I understand how to do that. I wish I could calm down. I need to focus and not screw this up. I wish I had studied more. I wish I were still a music major. I wish pretty much anything but to be taking this test. |
