No. He lives still and makes these horrendous movies.

I just looked up Igmar Bergman... he's still alive it seems. And there's no mention of him trying to commit suicide.

I don't know why, but for some reason I used to think he was German.

Wow... I'm embarrassed.

He grew up in a strict household, his father was a Lutheran minister. Seems as though I don't know any of his films, but I know his name.

The only Swedish film I think I've ever seen was one in which there was a family that came over to America and only the father spoke a little bit of English. They went out west to the frontier to become farmers and their life was very hard. In the end, the wife dies, I think of cancer. Not sure. The movie was almost entirely subtitles.

I wish I could remember the name of the movie.

Oh, and I just tried to search for the movie I was talking about, the one I saw on cable a few years ago.. it stars Liv Ullmann and Max Von Sydow... and it's either one of these two movies...

Well, he's done a lot of movies about people with psychological problems and those are the ones I really hate.

The ones based upon Moberg's Emigrant-quartet is quite good.

Interesting... I'll have to look into them.

The movies are rather old, they were made in the early 70's.
