![]() Yes - I was trying to think about how some things Dunedain fit into your riddle... couldn't quite see it being the Palantiri...? Was that a hint though? Does it have to do with Numenor / Dunedain / Arnor or Gondor or such? Was that a HINT?
Shall we trade hints then? You were uncomfortably close with your guess of Bilbo! |

The palantiri is a good guess. They were of different sizes. But, as you probably considered they were not easily divided in half (individually), plus they were not seven parts of a single whole as the riddle suggests.
Here is a reposting of the riddle for convenience: Middle Earth Geometry Riddle Out of the whole divide me by seven. From the seven, choose six and divide each by two. The one remainder from the original seven represents the largest value. The other six have ever decreasing values. What in Middle Earth can I be? note: The solution to the riddle is not a mathematical number. You must think abstractly to derive the answer. Last edited by Keith K : 11-19-2003 at 08:55 AM. |

![]() Keith, if this does involve, the Dunedain, I'm thinking of how Arnor was divided into three parts... but I can't think of how Gondor was similarly divided, nor how there was a separate, distinct part remaining (unless an abstract, perhaps 'Platonic-logos' type of "Numenor" as an ideal realm).
Am I barking up the wrong ent? |

Here's a little riddle to play with...
I was seen climbing the rim of the world, holding on high a shining, bright sword. |

Aha is right! The correct answer is Menelvagor. Chalk another one up for Radagast! Nicely done. Back in a few with a new riddle that I have been working on. BTW Radagast, how about opining on the geometry riddle?

Menelvagor = swordman of the sky, from the index. I can't really translate it back to English - I think it would be 'fortune' of Orion.
Varda created it - it is written in Sil as 'Menelmacar'. |
