You're right, that's boxing. Wrestling is often on the ground, and it's a sport where several amputees have done well.

The nice thing was that after the match, a couple of kids from the other team came up to him and said he was inspiring and to keep with it and that he was doing well for just starting.

My little soprano girl has made SOOOOOO much progress! And it seems like I've got the mom on my side.

When the girl came in she barely had any high voice at all (her mom thought she had a low voice), she was hitting every first note really hard with her throat, and she was very uncomfortable trying to sing into her high voice... you could tell it made her nervous and frustrated.

The other day she came back after a two week break (during which time she actually PRACTICED... I was floored) and she did an amazing job. She improved in every way over the break, now she can sing comfortably into her high notes, and she even went a half-step higher into her whistle voice (which we discovered right before the 2-week break) to an Ab above Soprano High C!

Then she made me look good because she was able to do it again for her mom without batting an eyelash. Mom was suitably impressed.

The little girl is such a joy to teach... she picks techniques up incredibly fast (usually on the first or second try), she practices, she can repeat back the things I taught her the week before (I always quiz my kids at the start of every lesson), and she just generally makes me appear to be about 150% better at teaching than I even am.

She's seriously awesome.

About to start a new job! A job in my field (Architecture)! It's been a rough few years, but I just got this offer today and took it. I start Jan 3. It's at a small state university located only 2 miles from my house!

Yes - it might even allow more moot-time again! And maybe... even a chance to write some fanfiction. But I don't want to promise away too much time right off. My boys have grown and I hope to put a lot of my extra time into them.

Happy Thing 2: I missed it myself, but this sounds hilarious. My 9-year old son (the youngest) went to a police station here in Chicago with his Cub Scout Den - all 3rd graders. It's a big station. Anyway - he got cuffed and put in a cell. Some of the other boys were put in a lineup. I think they all got introduced to the interrogation room (the one with a chair and bright light, I suppose - if they still do that). He didn't tell everything else (we have to draw things out of him), but he had a blast. I bet it was fun for the police officers too. And they might be hoping to get the kids a message... that they do NOT want to face these things for real someday.

Yay! Owing no money is good

I'm happy because I just went way passed my stress-meters last Friday when I hit another car and now I have to pay a lot of money. Add that to already being way overstressed so now I just don't care anymore. Which is actually nice for a change.
Happier thing: holidays start in a couple of days!

i'm happy because it's our 2nd anniversary today, we're going to a nice restaurant to celebrate it and tomorrow we're heading north to see my family for christmas.
