Hello my pretties! I'm back from vacation and ready for action. Yes, even though it was a funeral I went to, everyone was pretty cheerful and we had some good times. Grandma lived a full, long life. So, it felt more like a family reunion than anything.

That's nice, katya. Sounds like "a life well lived"

We had that at the funeral of my great-aunt a long time ago.
Even at my grandfathers funeral (who was dearly loved by many many people), people were quite cheerful afterward. Apparently that's a common feat. Link, you don't have to pretend, just hop in Has anyone of you any experience with a Sudbury school? I'm getting quite interested in all these democratic sort of schools. I read about one such school in a trilogy by Enid Blyton (please tell me you know Enid Blyton!) and it fascinated me even then at age young.

Yes. We have a local one. Hate it. I think it's the "Emperors New Clothes" and I'm an unschooler.
Here's your girl, Mari. http://womenshistory.about.com/od/qu...montessori.htm

Actually, a Sudbury school is different from a Montesorri school apparently.
According to my information anyway. I liked the involving the children in the democratic process (though in general I'm not a huge fan of the democratic system). Actually, I just really liked that book Montesorri isn't really my cup of tea. Depending on how the school implements it of course.

Yes, a Sudbury school is completely different. And completely stupid, ime. In a Sudbury school, you don't "involve the children in the democratic process." They let you know where to step off. QUITE different.
However, a learning environment that actually implements Maria Montessori's ideas (instead of just tagging her name on a pricey daycare) can be a whole lot of fun.

Well, I wouldn't let my kids go to a Sudbury school either, but a Free school... it has some merits.
I guess it would also depend on the child though. I would love for my children to be able to go to a school with active club-life. But here in the Netherlands there hardly is such a thing. If children want to garden, or to play a certain sport or debate or whatever, there should be an opportunity for them to do so. Here there is nothing of the sort. Except for the sport clubs, but those are always private. Never linked to a school. That's what I loved about Japan. Everyone can be social in the area that you love, rather than being stuck somewhere, not knowing what you can do and with whom. EDIT: my remark on your new sigline got lost on the previous page I think, but Louisa May... who is/was she?
