But tell me GM, as a Democrat (converse of my situation)...do you tend to read racism into everything? Isn't it politically convenient to get the black vote by playing on their fears? Becuase that's what the Democrats have fallen back on every time.

Ending racism:
1) So blacks will not have an institutional bias against them, preventing them from climbing any ladder that a white would climb. 2) As Dr. King said, so that we can judge each other on the content of character and not the color of skin. Societal harmony. Are each of these goals met completely? No, but we are far closer to fulfilling them than we ever have been. We've heard by now a lot that 'The South' and 'The North' did not have to go to war, and that it was in fact The North's fault that The South started treating it's slaves so badly. I don't agree with that narrative, which concludes by saying that the war was not necessary and that slavery was on the way out, anyhow... But it does make you think: is it the level of race-talk in the media that the narrative of racism alive, and therefore keeping racism alive? Nobody is inherently racist. During the Civil War whites were so used to blacks being slaves that they never stopped (and didn't care to) to think about equality. During the civil rights era, whites were so used to segregation that they didn't stop to think about unity, as Dr. King did. They resented the changes...and made up excuses of extreme stupidity, reasons that justified keeping things the same: "blacks are inferior" etc... There is no excuse for the clearly racist actions taken against blacks by police in the 50s-70s, some of which my dad witnessed. But we're beyond that now. Regular, everyday people don't think like that. We weren't raised to think blacks were stupid or inferior. So in this day and age, it's something else that is driving racism and the talk about racism. What is it?

Too true, for the likes of Streisand Thankfully, in addition to being very good looking, most of those Republican women are very well educated.
I would take off Madaleine Albright from the list of the Dems. She's pretty darn smart.

I'd TOTALLY vote for McCain. Hillary's a jerk, liar, thief, and the list goes on. The only REAL reasons why people like Obama are (1) He's African-American or (2) He's the only other guy besides McCain.

ElfGal - the only reason people would vote for Barack is because he is Black? When has that ever been an advantage?
Hector - that poster is pretty ridiculous. It purposely uses the most unflattering shots of those women. For the republicans - they are all heavily made-up. Most of those pictures are glamor shots. :P All but 1 look like poses - the Anne Coulter one is a from a TV interview. All the rest are poses for the camera and all are professional shots except 1. Most of those women are very intelligent.

Obama has won more states, more votes, and more pledged delegates. It is mathematically impossible for Clinton to pass him on those...
The ONLY way she can get the nomination now is to somehow convince enough Super Delegates to vote for her... a very unlikely scenario. Why drag this out any longer? She'll win a few more states (Like Pennsylvania), but so will Obama. ----- I've been to an Obama rally and it is indeed exciting. OT: BOP you like FOTC? Me too.

Hobbit: Personally I think it's difficult for Hillary to admit she's lost. Her tactics over the past couple of months have descended into horrible mudslinging and downright lies. After being the supposed frontrunner for so long, I don't think her ego can accept the fact that she's lost. So she's going to tear apart the democratic party with all of her attacks on Obama, and even worse if she somehow steals the nomination against the will of the American people. Yep, there's party unity for you.

You got a postal vote Curufin?
What appears certain is that it will not be decided by the primaries alone: if my maths are right it's impossible for Obama to win outright even if he won all the remaining delegates. It will be down to the Super Delegates. Would the Dems let it go to a Convention bunfight? Would that be bad or good? Not heard much further about the Florida ballot being discounted: there was talk of appealing that. Anyone know what the story is there? |

No, I'll be voting from Indiana.
I'm in University in Derry right now, but I am an American citizen, and I'll be home by November. I think it would be horrible for the Democratic party if it goes on the way it has been all the way to the convention. With all of Hillary's mudslinging, it can only divide the party. The longer this division and nastiness goes on, the more voter apathy and disgust will rise, and (in my opinion) the more votes will go to 3rd parties such as Nader. As for Florida, I'll be pretty upset if they agree to make those votes count. It was agreed by the entire convention beforehand that the votes wouldn't count because they violated the rules. Everyone agreed to this. Now Hillary's just trying to appeal it because she wants the delegates. If Obama had won, she wouldn't be trying to get the decision of the convention overturned. Here's the latest article I can find on the delegates - looks like they're saying her attempts to get the delegates re-instated has "stalled": http://edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS...ead/index.html
