Here gos....

Golden thread whipped at my face
A warrior fighting fierce;
I thought I had the upper hand
then we fell to earth.
Falling, falling into dark
then my foe did disembark
the eagles took him way up high
While I fell to the shadowed ground.
Now I'm dead, and all around
I hear songs of the warrior
in the golden mound.

Might be a little confusing (its my first riddle). Hope you like it

I think it is more like the Balrog that Glorfindel was fighting in the mountains outside of Gondolin.

Good Job, Keith K. That is what I was looking for, but after I wrote it, I figured that Glorfindel would work too, so way to go Radagast as well!

Actually, I have a question. I was brousing this thread when I noticed that four lines is pretty much the standard. Is there a rule governing this, or does it not matter (I already broke it anyway. Day late and a dollar short, huh)?

If you look at all my posts in here you will see several different formats. Some times I rhyme, sometimes not. Sometimes they are long, sometimes not. Sometimes they are impossible to solve without clues, sometimes they are incredibly easy. It is up to the riddler to create his own riddle any way he wants to.

Cool, thanks for clarifying , heres another one...

Down and down did my life go
ever wandering to and fro
till I found the place of rest
and stayed there learning of elvenesse.

Looking for the person...

I hope elvenesse is the right word, too...

This won't quite rhyme - but I need to help out around here...

I achieved a great quest in my time,
My son achieved one greater than mine!
And when my own son's quest was done,
He had as a friend my jailer's son.

Not that easy actually. I had to do some thinking to get that one. If I wasn't familiar with BoLT I would never had gotten it. It was a good tough riddle Beor and I had fun guessing it!

Middle Earth Geometry Riddle

Out of the whole divide me by seven.
From the seven, choose six and divide each by two.
The one remainder from the original seven represents the largest value.
The other six have ever decreasing values.

What in Middle Earth can I be?

note: The solution to the riddle is not a mathematical number. You must think abstractly to derive the answer.

Interesting guess (you are correct in thinking that 7 is the number with which to begin concentrating on), but it is incorrect. Thanks for guessing and keep trying!
note: Also, consider the geometry title. You have a whole which is divided into seven parts. Six of those parts are divided in two. The remaining part is the largest (obviously, since it isn't divided), with the following six parts ever smaller in size.

Bilbo was my apparently wrong guess for Beor's riddle - I was thinking of how he ended up at Rivendell. (EDIT: oh, and who is 'Eriol'?) I just saw Keith's new one and I'm thinkin...

Did you guys want to take a crack at mine? A few posts up...

I did take a crack at it Val. I guessed Bilbo. At first it confused me and I started thinking of every jailed character I could remember from the famous to the obscure before I even considered the obvious one!

Eriol was a Dunedain explorer who sailed to Eldamar where he hung out at this place called the Cottage of Lost Play or something or other. It is like the Hall of Fire in Rivendell sort of. (Actually I think it is somebody's house and Eriol stays as a guest). He is the human source for the Elven history that survives into the Ages of Men. I think that is pretty much it. It is from BoLT which I read many many yrs. ago. So my memory is kinda foggy.

Aha! I see how Bilbo almost fits... but technically, Frodo wasn't his son, even though he was his heir. Got any other tries?

What's funny is I had just guessed Bilbo on the other... so I thought you were kind of saying, "How could you guess Bilbo for THAT?!?!?

Yours, meanwhile, is a REAL toughie!

Hmm, I was hoping that Bilbo was the answer and I could get off on a technicality (Frodo=heir/son). I will consider your riddle again and come up with another guess.
About the geometry riddle...come on Val, you are a good solution finder to my riddles. You should be able to reason it out. Besides, you are a Dunedain fanatic...they like to do things in sevens.....It is a convolutedly difficult poser though. There's really not much to go on. Y'all are gonna wanna hurt me for making it so hard.
