Know how sometimes you get that weird thing when you drink and you get that feeling like there's a "bubble" or something in your throat? And it makes your voice sound funny?

I had that happen tonight, and I thought, "Wow, I kinda sound like Amy Winehouse." So I recorded a little snipped, then sang a few words in my normal voice after clearing my throat, and OMG IT'S SO WEEEEEEIRD!!!! O.o What a neat sound. I wish I could make it at will:

"And here is M.O.O.T. 102,2 with the Moots playing Elvis' King Creole..."

There's a man on the Moot
Who types a lot
He's a threaded man
With a great big soul
He lays it down neat
Like a ton of coal
He goes by the name of Hector B

You know he's gone, gone, gone
Jumpin' like a catfish on a pole
You know he's gone, gone, gone
Hip shaking Hector B

When Hector starts to do it
It's as good as done
He types his posts
Like a tommy gun
He starts to growl
From way down his board
He bends a string
And "that's all she wrote"

You know he's gone, gone, gone
Jumpin' like a catfish on a pole
You know he's gone, gone, gone
Hip shaking Hector B

Hector B, Hector B...

(fades out...)

I'm done with the modern translation version 1 of my thesis. Now I have 2 days to do the classic Japanese part, come up with a way to translate the parts I didn't get before and get it to somehow resemble a decent, whole translation...
But for now I'll have some tea! ^_^

Andreas, I saw some pictures of the Independence Day celebrations in Bergen. They had sunny weather there and it looked like fun. I'm jealous of Norwegian national clothes... They look so much better than the Dutch ones.

Hehe yeah Bergen had such nice weather. So much irony since it's usually raining (Bergen and Seattle are exactly the same weather-wise).

Well we have several hundreds of different kinds of Bunads (the traditional clothes worn by women mostly). They're kinda cool I used to have one that men from the part of Western Norway where some of my ancestors are from, but it's too small now

I'm thinking of getting a new one tho..

Cool! You were in Bergen too then? I thought it was a small place...

Traditional clothes are really kinda nice.

The second couple from the left are from the small islandvillage my grandparents are from. My aunt wore those sort of clothes till she died a few years ago.
Nowadays there are only a few hundred people actually wearing traditional clothing whole year through.

So, one more exam tomorrow morning, then Aika comes to visit me. Her plane arrives early Tuesday morning, so I get to spend tomorrow cleaning and doing laundry and starting the nightmare that is packing to fly back to the States.

I can't believe I'm going home so soon.

Is it possible to be sad and excited at the same time?

Hehe well Bergen is actually the 2nd largest city in Norway. Naw, I'm in Trondheim, further north (3rd largest). Big student city

So people actually wear those clothes all year round? Where in the Netherlands is that?

The ones I recognize are from the left: Volendam, Urk (that's where my mother's family is from), dunno, dunno, Spakenburg, Hindelopen, Zeeland, dunno.

But yes, there are a few people who wear it everyday. The youngest person still doing so 81 (according to Wikipedia).
They all live in the Dutch Bible belt though. Especially Spakenburg where there are still quite a few people wearing it.

EDIT: Rinkë, yeah that's possible, but let's just focus on Aika coming first

Yeah. I live at the outskirts of the Dutch one.
The map wasn't a map of the belt itself though, it was a map of voters for a certain political party, the SGP. Very religious party.

Ah. Mhm, it's an interesting nation you live in (Yeah okay I know that's nerdy, but I'm a student of political science so... whatever)
