Does anyone know how to properly pronounce the "rd" in Quenya (Tolkien even made a tengwa that represented the "rd" sound in Quenya)? What I mean is in saying "Nerdanel" or "Arda" how does one pronounce each letter?

Hmmm, it's hard to describe to someone who have english as their first language...
The r is not pronounced like in English "radio", but as in...

Try to listen to a finn speak, and you'll hear how it's supposed to be pronounced.

Edit: Or listen to Christopher Lee in the first LotR-movie.

Here is a nice resource. It's a voice file where Tolkien himself reads the poem Namaarie in Quenya (the text found in LotR book two, Chapter VIII (but of course you all Quenya fans know that poem by heart ). The Stream version didn't work for me, but MP3/Winamp version works well. In that poem there's at least the word "Varda"/"Vardo" that includes "rd", so you'll hear at least how Tolkien says it.

Yeah, it's sometimes nice to be a Finn. Although one could say that I speak Quenya with a Finnish accent!

Vinya cuilë lian sina!

I translated the first three verses of the Song of Amroth:

(The lay of Nimrodel)

Lirilla Nimrodelo

An Elven-maid there was of old,
A shining star by day:
Her mantle white was hemmed with gold,
Her shoes of silver-grey.

Elvendë né enwina ressë
Elen calima mi aurë
Finderya ninquë untúmpë lauressë
Táluvaileryar sindë

A star was bound upon her brows,
A light was on her hair
As sun upon the golden boughs
In Lorien the fair.

Elen nuntë caseryanna
Cala findessërya
Vë Anar laurëa aldannar
Lóriendessë vanima

Her hair was long, her limbs were white,
And fair she was and free;
And in the wind she went as light
As leaf of linden-tree.

Findesserya anda, hröa ninquë
Ar nés vanima ar léra
Ar i súrissë, úlunga oantië
Vë lassë aldava

Hopefully more to come.

A couple of new verses:

Beside the falls of Nimrodel
by water clear and cool
her voice fell like silver falling
into the shining pool

Ara i Nimrodelo celussë
Ara nén vÃ*rin ar ringa
Ómarya vë lantala telpë
lantanë silila ailinna

Where now she wanders none can tell
in sunlight or in shade
for lost of old was Nimrodel
and in the mountains strayed

Nóme yassen sÃ* ranyas úquen
ista, áressë var laimessë
An vanwa yáressë Nimrodel né
Ar ranyanes orontissë

The Elven-ships in havens grey
Beneath the mountain-lee
Awaited her for many a day
Beside the roaring sea

I eldaciryar londessë sindë
Ara i oronti-ramba
Erner limbë rÃ* nómessë
Ara i rávëa ëar

A wind by night in Northern lands
Arose, and loud it cried,
And drove the ships from elven-strands
Across the streaming tide

Sùrë lómessë nórë formenyassë
Ortanë ar ramanes ráma
Ar tulyanë i ciryar úlëa celumenna
Et eldafalasello

These words are usually phrases. You are probably looking up exact words to replace, "welcome" and "hello"... but there are no exact equivalents.

'A star shines on the hour of our meeting' is one. This gives you an idea of how greetings are said in Quenya.

I have only really studied Quenya, and I like it alot. I've been working for a while on the course by Helge Fauskanger(at Ardalambion.com), and it's great! So far I've completed 11 lessons...

_Ayia_, "hail" is generally used as hello.

Hello, Lord Boromir! Seen you before, have I?
