Hehe, the spellingrules from 2007 cleared up a lot of difficulties though. For instance when spelling a 'samengesteld woord' you often wonder if there should be an -n- in the middle or not. The only time there should be, is when both words of the combination are nouns. So 'spinnenweb', but 'spinnewiel' since 'spinne' is derived from the verb 'spinnen'.
I had to learn the new rules to pass the language exam which is now mandatory at most HBOs. Before that, I thought the same as you though. I stuck to the rules I learnt long ago, but the current ones really are easier. Speaking of capitals: I read up on the spelling of Internet/internet. I kinda figured it out for myself already, but it's nice to know exactly what the difference is.

I think they may be too difficult without subtitles for my students though, but they're really cute.

Yeah, the 'tussen -n' (intermediate -n) is about the only good, consistent change they made. Although I still have trouble to remember them in the once-time 'versteende uitdrukkingen'. I still tend type ruggegraat, or 'pannekoek' without the -n. I didn't mind the idea of keeping some words in archaic spelling, as much as the many, many rules they kept adding. 'Electrisch' of 'elektrisch'? Frankly, I can't remember which and I'm glad I 'm not the one who has to teach all that to youngsters.

True. I'm alsp amazed at how well some foreigners manage to learn Dutch. I mean: there aren't even rules for the use of de or het. You simply have to know.

I DON'T WANNA GO TO SCHOOL AND YOU CAN'T MAKE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*sulk* Okay, so I do. But I don't. But then I do again. But then I remember that I really don't. But then I realize that I'm completely terrified of making the wrong life choice and dooming myself to a bleak future hidden away in a cubicle doing stupid paper shuffling work till a robot replaces me at which point I'll be completely unemployable because I'll have wasted away my life doing nothing but sitting on my butt and trying to write clever comments online only to find that all of my friends got famous without me AND that I'm not funny. ..................... so anyways. I'm off to school. But in all seriousness, I'm anxious. Today starts some of the really hard classes, and I can't get rid of that nagging voice telling me, "You can't pass these." The only way to prove to myself that I can do it is to just get out there and DO it.... but I'm scared to. Grrr. |

Camille Paglia is such fun.
"Incarnation, the limitation of mind by matter, is an outrage to imagination. Equally outrageous is gender, which we have not chosen but which nature has imposed upon us. Our physicality is torment, our body the tree of nature on which Blake sees us crucified." "Children are monsters of unbridled egotism and will, for they spring directly from nature, hostile intimations of immorality."

I am getting very frustrated with my voice teacher. She canceled a number of lessons without telling me last semester, I never got my "last" voice lesson of last semester, she wouldn't give me a lesson over the break despite being in town and saying she had nothing to do, and she JUST canceled our lesson tomorrow...
and by canceled I mean I texted her to see if we were still on for the lesson that she promised me last Thursday, and she texted back, "No I wont be at school, maybe later this week?" So once again she was just going to let me show up for no lesson.... and all of this with her KNOWING that I have a solo to sing in two weeks and that I want to compete at small NATS this semester, and that Mondays are pretty much the only day I can swing a lesson. I think I'm hitting my breaking point in putting up with this, because this last week has been non-stop studying and it takes a tremendous amount of self discipline to do 5+ hours of study/homework a day plus attending classes and working, and then get myself in a practice room to do music instead of rolling over and falling asleep, or watching some tv, or reading a book, or any other number of things I would love to do to relax... Then I get my lessons canceled again? No. No I don't think so. I am not working my butt off just to be forgotten. This is going to get fixed or I'm going to find a new teacher who is actually willing to give me a freaking lesson every once in a while. I really love her, and she's a fantastic teacher, but I demand a little respect for my effort. |

That's very frustrating to say the least. Maybe it may be a good thing to talk to her about all this. She's not acting very professionally.

Doesn't sound like a very good situation. Here's hoping you get it worked out.

My sump pump is broken and my basement has a puddle. I have to save money to get a new sump.

Good luck with the talk, Tessar! And you're right, you really don't need that. I hope your teacher can see that as well.

I've decided that there needs to be a little part of me... actually there already is... that is living outside of my present relationship. It's something i have to do... whether that's healthy or unhealthy, i'm not sure, but it's almost like an act of self-preservation. I need to feel that there is still life to live if this doesn't work out. Coming back to Entmoot has been like a 'safe haven' for me in this. Love you guys!
