Yes, he is better than Gloin; he takes a beating. A lot of beatings. He's injured in every battle isn't he? Gets shot (and Hamish tries pulling it. "IDIOT boy!!"), hand chopped off, axed in the gut... I guess not every battle, but that's an ass-kicking if you ask me.
Mind you: he definately dealt out his share of blows too, many more than he suffered.

cops an arrow first battle then gets up throws a spear in some soldier then runs up to start fighting again. hand chopped off gets back up and kills him and finally dies after the next battle.... that is not an arse kicking because its in battle and its just a few wounds.
