Treebeard re

Yeah, probably Gandalf... but the coolest would be *gasp* Quickbeam. Heheh... bending 'hasty' legions of Huorns and Ents to his will... if he gathered every Ent and ent-related force in the Middle-earth, no amount of brute force would be able to stop them.

Obviosly it would be Sauron, but the question is probably about someone other than him. I would say Aragorn because he is the Heir of Isiluder, who cut Saurons hand, nd was the only one ever to injure him.

Was it really Isildur's superior abilities that led to the success of his attack on Sauron, or just dumb luck? I always attributed it to the latter.

Besides, Isildur wasn't so powerful when in control of the Ring - being a Ringbearer led to his death.

Even if we did give Isildur some credit for beating up Sauron, Aragorn's not Isildur. Sure, he inherited some of his ancestor's abilities... but it's not the same thing.

Yeah, Isildur didn't really start taking over the world when he got the Ring. But then, maybe he wasn't completely corrupted yet.

yah, but u could still tell the ring was taking him over, especially that he did not destroy it, showing he wanted to use it for power.

Gandalf was greater than Sauron in the TA, with no rings involved
Where does it say that Gandalf was greater than Sauron without the rings? We know that Gandalf was wisest amongst the mair but he is by no means nearly, the most powerful mair. There have been numerous references that state Gandalf as the inferior being to Sauron.Gandalf was at no point more powerful, actually the exact opposite and Sauron is head of Morgoths soldiers, which show power in rank.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but Gandalf the white just doesn't seem likely to last long in a fight with the dark lord.Could you support your claim?

Well, if we're pulling out the Silmarillion, then it would be Morgoth, obviously.

In the TA...

Ghan-buri-Ghan!

No doubt Sauron would.

He was certainly corrupted by the Ring... but not necessarily the most powerful wielder.

Definitely not the most powerful wielder. Tolkien discussed Frodo, Gollum, and the Ring in his Letters. He said that neither of them could have kept the Ring from Sauron.

I never said he would be the most powerful with the ring, I said Aragorn would be.

I think that Sauron is the most powerful foe, one could ever meet except Morgoth.Alorin just seems too underpowered to contend with Sauron.

Sauron would smite his ass .Tolkien left it to us to decide who is more powerful, and i will *** ****** believe in Sauron

Pity he was killed by a cat

Oops. My bad. Must remember to fully recollect what it is I am responding to before I post. Or just get more sleep.

So, to rephrase my response: Isildur wasn't all mighty and powerful with the ring, he just had the dumb luck/skill/what have you to cut it off. As his descendent, I guess Aragorn could inherit Isildur's skill (although not his luck) and might have a good chance at cutting off the ring in a similar situation, but that doesn't quite translate to being a good master of the ring once he has it. But maybe I'm missing something here in your logic.
