Legolas' father had dark hair, and it's common knowledge that silvan elves weren't blond.

It could have been silver, as that was more common among the sindar and he was related to celeborn, who generally is pictured with silver hair.

Why are you doing this to me, Sister?
OK, let's discuss Finrod's and Galadriel's hair, I like them too (more than any other siblings in Middle-earth, actually).
IMHO, this is a question of shades and individual colour perception (which does differ dramatically between people) but I always took silver literally - very light whitish grey. Galadriel's hair was "gold of Laurelin blended with silver of Telperion" (you can this quote far better than I do ), so I took the colour as being light yellow gold, with some undershade (some strands, maybe) of silver-grey. Finrod I always pictured as somewhat reddish, very lightly, though. A very bright, vibrant colour for him.

Indeed? And I was firmly convinced that Tolkien described Thranduil, Legolas' father, with a garland of leaves on his golden hair.

Mind bringing this fact to Peter Jackson's knowledge?

Oh Elanor, you are ruining my image of Finrod. Please, red in his beautiful golden locks? No way!

Gil-galad is so much more awesome than any of the above mentioned... i could picture him as a battle pig... all you Legolas lovers would have like the making of the TT as it was Legolas Legolas Legolas...
anyways i seem to like the battle hardened elves aka GIL-GALAD with Aeglos...
and as for the Hobbits Bullroarer Took, i would have liked to have seen Bullroarer and Gil-galad in action

His father actually had golden hair, but because I know you know that, and I'd like to protect myself from you in the future, I won't make fun of you.

I disagree about the "common knowledge" stuff. Unfortunately, it isn't common knowledge, I don't think. We have this stereo typical vision of blonde Elves, and it just won't go away.
