Talk about pulling the rug from out under the underground rappers, plus it was the first recorded rap song.

Not really. James brown did "rap" back in the 50's; however, SHG put it on the map as a "genre" of music.

Well, if we must be technical.

There are other artists that "rapped" first as well, but they didn't manage to get it recorded and pushed as a genre either.

That album was "on fire!" It flew out the door for months on end! I really liked it, Curtis Blow was cool. Everyone that bought that album was smiling

I always thought Mohammed Ali was the first rapper, then JJ did the ryhme thing on goodtimes. Talking in rhyme is fun, I don't need all the foul language tho.
