I have just been given a build-your-own-lightsaber kit for my birthday. (Unfortunetly, it won't cut anything when completed) It uses neon gas, which is a concept I hadn't thought of for lightsaber-making, but the handle is a bit big and clunky for real lightsaber-duel elegance.

I'll post a picture after I have it built.

Yeah, archery is great. Except for when your first getting into it and you hit your arm with the string and look like your a heroin addict with all the nasty bruises you have on your arms

When my friends and I started archery she wouldn't even wear short sleeves bacause of it. Archery is the only sport I've ever been good at though, so I was lucky enough to only hit myself a few times!

I haven't actually done much archery, haven't since summer camp about five years ago, and the one time this spring when I was shooting in the yard (our rather small backyard) at night (not a good idea...) but I really want to do archery. I have a bow; I just need an archery range!

YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! !!!!!

I finally got a sword! It's a smaller sword, but I don't care because it's a replica of Sting from Fellowship of the Ring. I found it in a store called Shades and Blades (They sell sunglasses and swords. How's that for variety?) in St. Augustine, Florida. The only difference between mine and the official pic I've posted a link to is that the Elven vine design on the handle is a bit closer on mine. I didn't get a cool wall hanger either, but I'm not complaining. You want to know the best part? It cost a mere $50. They had an official Sting and it was close to $200! If you didn't have a picture of the real thing with you, you couldn't tell the difference between mine and the official one. They also had official replicas of Glamdring (just like the pic that Cirdan posted earlier in this thread) and the Witch-King's sword. The only problem is that they were about $300. I don't have a scanner, or I'd scan a pic. Oh well. I'm so happy. Yay!

Oooh. Shiny.

SSWWEEEEEEEETTTT!!!!

I like the design and that is a nice price. Forget the wall hanger anyway. You could find a nice pewter hook at a craft fair for much cheaper than the additional cost. The it would look more like a weapon at the ready than a display piece.

Now the only problem is to find some orcs to skewer. There are some big spiders in FL too!

That rocks!

I though about getting me one but then I realized that if I was to spend that kind of money I am going to buy the Filigreed Blades that Legolas had, those were sweet!

But if they don't make those then I am definaltely going to buy Glamdring or Narsil. I can't decide which one.

Congrats, Khamul. You have now joined the ranks of sword-bearing mooters

I wish they would make replicas of Legolas' knives and bow!!! I would buy that, definitely

The only problem is that the blade isn't sharp. I mean, what am I supposed to do if my house gets overrun by orcs?

I guess it is a step in the right direction. At least they let me have something pointy.

My sword isn't sharp either. The good points (pun not intended) of having a dull sword is that it can be used for practice, though

The fact that the blades aren't sharp just ruins everything for me! Why would I spend 200 dollars on something that can't spill orc blood?!

I would also like to have the Bow of the Galadhrim, that would be very cool. I also decided that I would love to have Gwemegil as well, that blade is awesome!

Oh yeah, Eruviel, if there are no archery ranges around your house try a local college. Most have Archery classes and would only cost around thirty dollars, which is less than paying for a range. It's how I started and where I shoot regularly. The only problem with that being that I can only use my recurve. Blasted saftey rules!

Thanks, Rei.
Hmm, maybe my college will have one. . .

I say one needs at least two swords. One non-sharp one to practice with, one sharp for hacking orcs

You know, I've never really thought about that. It is an interesting question to think about. But like the article said, there are too many variables and uncertainties to get a definitive answer.

Oh yeah, my sword is a big hit with my friends.

Interesting essay. But like Khamûl I never really thought about it.

Erawyn... A kriss? I think those are usually slightly longer than what's legal to carry.
actually its a short dagger thing in a really cool carved wooden scabbard (thats what they're called right? i feel like an idiot) it would be a cool short sword for a hobbit!

Recently I've been playing Gandalf in an original adaptation of "The Hobbit". As such, I've been getting to use a really cool wooden sword (no metal ones....argh!) as Glamdring. I'll see if I can get a picture of it.

sword fighting is such a better form of combat. when i was a kid thats all me and mates did. we made swords (out of wood but some of them were very good and well designed) and they fought each other. i was quite good at one point. i would of loved to of lived in the older days or in middle earth just so much more adventure to be had.
