She was kown as dernhelm because of her exclaimation when she realized that the rider's headgear was heavy and obscured her sight.

If it's a zulu Shortspear it's got a good 3 feet of blade.

Otherwise it's just a plain old spear with a short staff.

Which means you should use a sheild with it.

Now if you want to know about something that takes a lot of maintainance, shields are often throwaway items.

Even cross grained and rimmed with metal, they seldom last more than one battle.

I must not have been thinking about the right thing then. I wouldn't use a pole-arm with a three foot blade on it. one foot iks plenty in my opinion. Even with the shorter polearms, I use them two handed kind of like a cross between staff fighting and normal pole-arm fighting. Sometimes I will use a shield. Other times I don't want one becasue it slows me down. I guess ti depends on the openent. In a one on one fight, I usually wouldn't. In a bigger battle, I would problably want one. I never become attatched to anything that I use as a shield. It usually breaks or gets really beaten up.

Give me a two or three foot, leaf bladed, sharp edged longbsword and I'll be quite happy, thank you. I have a design which I'm looking to have made someday.

I know most of my favorites aren't period weapons. If I needed a period weapon to fight with, I would be happy with a jo staff.

Does anyone else make blades or any other weapon? It really cuts down the cost of owning a good trustworthy blade. I myself would prefer a tanto style 9-12 inch blade with a Ray skin and cord-wrapped grip in a fight. Also give me a brace of throwing knives.

NAr- our master smith does the weapons, I just smoosh me fingers riveting armor.

And If I never see another peice of chainmail it will be too soon. Bugger turning links and bugger hammering them.
