One of the reason the Elves would be more beautiful than humans is no disease. No pimples, no warts, no fibroid tumors, no jandice, faster healing, etc.

Do you play there, or do you just like the info pages? I'm not particularly happy with their 'theme'.

Yepper is with two p's by the way. That's the sort of thing you learn on a mush.

Well, you see my title. I SLOW down and type correctly, but I've a rep I've gotta keep.

I only when to the MUSH once. It SEEMS interesting but I don't know if I have the time.

It SEEMS like it might require more time that I have.

By theme do you the first age after Fingolfin's Fall or something else?

The fingolfin versus morgoth story was in... 2001? We're coming up on the Fall of Felagund this year.

Is that what you mean. That you do not like the Finrod falls theme or do you mean something else.

That should be some good log reading. Will it be posted?

No, by 'theme' I mean psychic birds in gondolin, elves training with bamboo swords, elves with blasted high explosives. Get my drift? It's generally not too bad, especially when you're with decent players, but there are quite a few little things that get on my nerves.

Gandalf Eldar

This should help the original poster.

The Book of Lost Tales 2, VI. 'The History of Eriol and Æfwine and the End of the Tales':

Quote:
Ultimately, of course, the Elves shed all associations and qualities that would be now commonly considered 'fairylike', and those who remained in the Great Lands in Ages of the world at this time unconceived were to grow greatly in stature and in power: there was nothing filmy or transparent about the heroic or majestic Eldar of the Third Age of Middle-earth. Long afterwards my father would write, in a wrathful comment on a 'pretty' or 'ladylike' pictorial rendering of Legolas:

'He was tall as a young tree, lithe, immensely strong, able swiftly to draw a great war-bow and shoot down a Nazgul, endowed with the tremendous vitality of Elvish bodies, so hard and resistant to hurt that he went only in light shoes over rock or through snow, the most tireless of all the Fellowship.'
The Silmarillion , 'Of Eldamar and the Princes of the Eldalië':

Quote:
But when Elwë awoke from his long trance, he came forth from Nan Elmoth with Melian, and they dwelt thereafter in the woods in the midst of the land. Greatly though he had desired to see again the light of the Trees, in the face of Melian he beheld the light of Aman as in an unclouded mirror, and in that light he was content. His people gathered about him in joy, and they were amazed; for fair and noble as he had been, now he appeared as it were a lord of the Maiar, his hair as grey silver, tallest of all the Children of Ilúvatar; and a high doom was before him.
Legolas was tall 'like a young tree."

Thingol was the tallest of the Children of Ilúvatar - taller than any other elf or man, period.

Willow Oran asks "Out of curiosity, where does it say that Thranduil has blond hair?"

Thranduil did have blonde hair.

The Hobbit, 'Flies and Spiders':

Quote:
The feast that they now saw was greater and more magnificent than before; and at the head of a long line of feasters sat a woodland king with a crown of leaves upon his golden hair, very much as Bombur had described the figure in his dream.

Well, with "psychic birds in gondolin, elves training with bamboo swords, elves with blasted high explosives
That just killed any desire on my end.

I always thought that the Noldor had dark hair, the Vanyar had golden hair and the Teleri had silver hair...doesn't it say somwhere in the Sil that the Elves hair was like polished jet or golden blonde or silver?

Most Vanyar were golden haired.

Most Noldor were dark haired, though notable exceptions are Mahtan's house, which was reddish-brown and Finarfin's which was golden.

A lot of the 'royal' Telerin house had Silver hair, such as Elwe, Celebron, Cirdan and Earwen, though this was my no means exclusive, as Miriel, mother of Feanor was Silver haired.

Where does it say that Miriel had silver hair?

Wasn't Miriel a Noldo?

From Morgoth's Ring:
"Miriel was the name of his mother. Silver was her hair and dark were her eyes, but her hands were more skilled to fineness than any hands even of the Noldor."

Also the Teleri tended to be dark-haired (except as noted above).

Some of the Noldor had red hair:
"Maitimo 'well-shaped one': he was of beautiful bodily form. But he, and the youngest, inherited the rare red-brown hair of Nerdanel's kin. Her father had the epessë of rusco 'fox'. So Maitimo had as an epessë given by his brothers and other kin Russandol 'copper-top'." Refers to Maedhros.
"The two twins were both red-haired. Nerdanel gave them both the name Ambarussa - for they were much alike and remained so while they lived." Refers to Amrod and Amras.
