Found the answer. Highlight if you want it.

Only a roll that has a 'middle dot' stands for a 'rose'. 1,3, and 5 are the only numbers that have that. The 1 has no other dots around it, so you can ignore the 1. The 3 side has 2 'petals' around the 'rose' dot, the 5 has 4 petals around the 'rose' dot. So if you roll a 3 and a 5 there will be 6 petals (2 from the three sided + 4 from the five sided = 6).

If there are no dice with a 3 or a 5 facing up, then the answer is 0.

Ick... evil... evil... evil...

I got it on my third try, but my theory proved groundless... As did the theory after that, and the next one, and the next...

evil... evil...!!!

So, in other words, you are counting the petals around the rose. Lame-o, huh?

Wow. After two and a half years I finally start a thread that people want to respond to... I'm feeling all emotional now and may have to lie down.

I read the first sentence of Tessar's spoiler, and you know what? It's not that obvious. I don't feel quite so silly now.

I knew there was some reason (highlight below for spoiler)

... that all the answers were even numbers.

I've done that one before in a computergame. Took me at least half an hour the first time, I nearly went mad with all those different disks.

That was my thinking too - your spoiler was as far as I got
I don't think it's that obvious - it relies on being able to recognise that (spoiler)

a dice with dots on it looks a bit like a rose

which you either see or you don't.

I'm not going anywhere near the other puzzles. I need my sanity!

The annoying thing about it is that:

They pose it as a math question, but it's more of an 'english wording' problem. It should be 'petals around the roseS', not around the rose.

Wow! that's incredibly difficult and brain-tormenting! It reminds me of the misterious map in the movie "Contact" I've made three sides: blue, yellow and orange, but I'm lost in all the others
