Now whats this throwing around fo the word "evil"? Whoever said the ring was "evil"?
 just kidding. Still I think if Sauron had turned good, (highly unlikely IMO), he would have been able to suck his power back from the ring itself. Then he has internal conflict. New turned Sauron fights old evil Sauron in his head. Good wins cuz well good always wins. Then the white coucil forces him to destroy the ring and is sent on timeout back to Valinor. I think they would be more careful of "redeemed" people after the "redemption" of Melkor.
