I've seen a picture of what he would look like for the card game and he didn't do justice to Tom Bombadil. He was more like a Wild Man of Dunland.

yea i was being sarcastic. Yeah he looked perfect but just needed some depth and reasoning behind it all.

Good point Thranduil, though it leads me to an interesting question;

Who do you guys think would be good to cast as the "left out" roles!?

Radagast the Brown?
Tom Bombadil?
Goldberry?
Halbarad?
The Sons of Elrond?
" ?
Prince Imrahil?

Any others you can think of?

Don't forget Glorfindel, for obvious reasons. And while we're naming elves that were cut, how about Gildor? (Even though his part being cut wasn't nearly as damaging.) I'm all for choosing talented obscure actors and giving them a chance. (Plus, this means they're not type cast. )

Hey Gaffer (it seems like I'm following you around but we're just on at the same time... I swear!)!

From reading the short bio it seems like Brian Blessed would have made a great Tom Bombadil! He even has the right 'look', from what I imagined. (Especially the bottom single picture.) And we'd need a good singer, that's for sure.

The Gaffer and Fatty Bolger should have been in FotR and Quickbeam in TT

Maybe Brian Blessed should have played you, Gaffer

I also think Frodo rushing forward with a cry of "The Shire!" to stab the cave troll in the foot at the battle of Balin's Tomb was a great loss.

Worst cut in the movies: All the scenes which showed what a brave and resolute hobbit Frodo was. Especially is defiance of the Nazgul, alone at the Flight to the Ford. That was definitely the worst cut in the movies.

You were seriously in the movie!? No way, you're pulling our collective leg.

Yeah Frodo seemed like a wimp in the movies. Everyone was always saving him and he was awlays ending up hurt. I was hoping he would be a much braver hobbit. I wish the Ghan Buri Ghan scene wasn't cut. And I miss the Dunadain, Imrahil of Dol Amroth, and Beregond. I would have been so cool to see them.

And Pippin killing the Troll at the Black Gate. The Black Gate looked more like an attack than a defence in the movies.

This was also important to Pippin's character as he went to the Gate feeling like he had only been a burden on the journey. Frodo and Sam were in Mordor, and Merry and helped kill the Witch-King. Killing the troll was redeeming for him. He felt he would never equal Merry, but he hoped to do something worthwhile. He said something like that in the Houses of Healing, IIRC.

I think we're missing scenes not because they would have contributed to the plot, but because they added something essential to Middle Earth. We love LotR not for the plot, the characters, or the allegory, but for the world of ME itself, and any distinctive part left out, like Corsairs or Ghan-buri-ghan, is sorely missed.

Tolkien clearly says mutliple times His books are in no way a form of Allegory.

Which would certainly explain why we don't love LOTR for the allegory.

I'd say the scouring of the shire, along with all the pieces about Saruman in there. PJ left a lot of stuff uneplained. And that whole thing about Arwen's fate being tied to the ring? What WAS that? That was like 15 minutes that could have showed the scouring of the Shire.

i can see why they cut the scouring, but the worst cut for me is the witch king taunting gandalf and then the rohirrim showing up, that and not have sons of elrond and the rangers joining the fight. The sons of elrond could have said his lines and halbarad couldve had a cool death scene.
also imrahil, beregond, and ghan-buri-ghan were missed
