Yes, shoes are just the beginning! The question is....how to display all the shoes, purses and hats so you can always pick a lovely ensemble? I need one of those giant walk in closets. I certainly don't have one! My house is a 125 year old farm house, three tiny closets in the whole dang thing! I line the shoes up all over the bedroom, the purses in a box, but I have so many I forget what all I have! Can you relate Baby K?
yes...vital!

I would never, ever part with them now.

Hats & jewelry? Aren't we getting off topic people.

Is it just that backbacking boots are for longer more difficult treks?

Shoes...*snerk*

I don't think I have that many pair of shoes but I'm not going to count them in case I prove myself wrong. The point is most shoes don't go with each outfit. So you'd have to have several pairs for several outfits.

The trouble is when you buy an new outfit where none of your current shoes go with, you have a problem that can only be solved by buying a matching pair. I've been looking for ages for the kind of shoe that goes with everything, suffice to say I haven't found it yet. I'm beginning to doubt it even exists.

Purses and hats are definately another story. I don't have them. I always forget purses and handbags so I prefer rugsacks.

I have WAY too many shoes, but since my feet haven't grown since I was in junior high, you have to take in account that most of my shoes are at least four years old.

Green flipflops
Brown flip flops
Black flip flops
Brown heeled clogs
Red fuzzy clogs
Red leater tennis shoes
Red slip ons
Black work shoes
Black four inch heels
Black "dance" shoes
Black boots
Brown Mephisto Sandals
Brown Hiking Boots
Brown leather clogs

I think that's it, but I'm not positive. Most of those shoes I've had for two or more years though.

I may be the most qualified to validate my opinion because I actually work in a retail store in the footwear department. And the reason we have so many different kinds of women's fashion shoes, sandals, boots, and sneakers is because they buy them all. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I'm just stating the fact. It's actually kinda of funny sometimes. The other day I heard a little boy complaining to his mom about getting him a pair of shoes. She said no and the kid just started to whine about how she bought his sister 5 pairs of shoes that year and he's had the same pair for 2 years. I thought that was funny and very sterotypical.

yes, the backpacking boots are for longer treks, and also, they are heavier because they have to be sturdier for terrain off the beaten path.

The 'black' boots are dressy, leather boots... they go up to my knees.

Yup - I can deffo relate with the lack of closet space - at the moment my shoes fill one closet (and I have some stacked up in boxes too), I have handbags in another, my clothes fill yet another & I still don't have enough space!!!!! I hate the change of seasons because every year it's a mission to move all the summer clothes from my closet to the spare closets in the the dressing room and get all the winter stuff out (and then back again after 3 months). But hey, I'm starting to become a pro at it

At one stage I also considered cataloging my shoes and bags, but that just became too much of a hassle, besides, I love those little surprises when you open a box & find that cute bag you'd bought WAY back when..........like mini Christmases all through the year

And of course I'm rather weird in that I also require perfume for just about every outfit - I think at last count I had something like 43 bottles - shopaholics anonymous here I come!!!!!!

You can take away my parties and drinks and everything else - just PLEASE don't ever touch my credit cards

Oh dear! I don't do credit cards though, I go to Goodwill and pile my cart high with everything I like. I spend a good time in the dressing room, but usually come away with ten dresses, skirts and what not, all for $40! I go to a Goodwill near Purdue University. Those silly college kids throw out brand new, expensive clothes all the time!

The change of seasons is intense....and I have to do it for three other people besides myself! I always manage to do it too soon also. The weather usually reverts back to the previous season for two weeks, after I've spent two days moving and lugging. Of course, shoes must be bought new...so I buy what I really want (comfortable, attractive) and then stay out of the stores! If you go there, you will spend!

When you get to my age, you've been buying the same size for twenty years, things really start to pile up! Still, styles eventually change, of course I don't do hip huggers and shirts with words on them, but it's funny how the women's styles are straight out of 1974! The clothes and shoes I wore in high school are pretty in! Men of the seventies would never have worn baggy stuff though.
Sometimes I think of the times my house's tiny closets were built for, when people had six outfits and washed and pressed them repeatedly....Boring, but simple! My husband and son seem to wear the same six outfits (maybe four!) over and over though, Woe to me if I don't have the "good" jeans and favored shirts washed often enough! Morning "freak out" time!

I love perfume, I have about six kinds, but The Body Shop, "White Musk" always melts the men, especially my little boy. I love it when he tells me "You smell REALLY good"! Ahhhh!

My dad's like that, but my brother is a bit of a clothes whore too, well, he's got four females buying him shoes and clothes all the time so I guess it's our fault really.

And of course, he's 17 now so it's different outfits for just about every party and school function and the like. And not cheap either! Even if it's stuff he uses for sport - I bought him some new togs for rugby and bloody hell, the damned things cost me 800.00 bucks!!!!!! That's just a rip off IMO, because he uses them for one season, then they are bust. It would be fine if that was the only expense, but it's the shorts and jerseys for it and the training kit. And the bugger does athletics and cricket as well, so those are also rather expensive.

But yeah, he also has his favourites - it's gotta be the denims and blue shirt for this occasion, then the bellywobbles if he doesn't have the right shoes - such a little pornstar I tell ye

Love him to bits though & I have to admit I'm the biggest culprit when it comes to spoiling him. But he's such a great guy - always very humble & greatful for anything he gets.

Awe, my friend's little boy was sitting on my lap Sunday - we were playing bongo drums & in the middle of a song he turns to me & says "Aunty K, you smell so pretty"

Holy kanoodle Baby-K, that's the most expensive rugby kit I've ever heard of! He better be Brian O'Driscoll or someone. Actually, I think my high school defrayed some of the cost of the kit, which is why it was $100 for shorts, jersey, and socks IIRC. My cleats were about $100 - new Mitre ones. Very good quality, lasted 2 seasons and there's lots of wear left! (I stopped playing unfortunately.) I prefer buying cleats second hand. My soccer cleats were these excellent Puma's in great condition, and only $30! They lasted about 4 soccer seasons and 2 rugby seasons (its last when I lent them to another player who was cleatless). They are quite worn now, but if I started playing soccer again I'd wear them. Duct tape baby.

You need good quality hiking boots for a long, difficult trek, which can double for day hikes. I prefer good boots for day hikes too anyway - it's worth it if you do enough. If you're doing scrambles, mountaineering, carrying a heavy pack, or going over rough ground, you need a sturdy boot which fits well, has a reasonably hard sole, good grips, and proper ankle support. And in the case of mountaineering, I imagine, one to which you can attach crampons to without destroying them.

My boyfriend has way more shoes than me, but he does manage a suit store. I love shoes, and I love shopping for shoes (when I go shopping at all, which is rare). However, I hardly ever buy them. I'm willing to spend a lot on quality shoes that will last, and I only replace shoes when they are nearly destroyed.

I have a lot of shoes though...

1 pair of extremely excellent hiking boots (my favourite pair of all my footwear. also double as winter boots.)

1 pair dress shoes (they only go with trousers though. i envy men's dress shoe fashion. so comfortable... if I was a man I'd have 1 pair of dress shoes like my dad.)

1 pair flip-flops

1 pair comfortable sneakers (all around comfy shoes, and I wear them at the gym too, even though they really aren't designed for sports.)

Shoes I own that I didn't bother bringing to Sweden...

high heels that are super dressy but also uncomfortable and annoying (from high school grad) (I might have gotten rid of these actually... )

rugby cleats (now broken in. oh the blister agony of breaking in new cleats)

Puma soccer cleats (very worn)

Nike runners (I'm disappointed though, they aren't as confortable as my destroyed Secony [??] runners.) (I still have the old ones, to paint fences and whatnot.)

Wellies

Now this person has a lot of shoes. Wow. If I had a similar amount of money available (and my tuition was paid) I would buy books, karate gear, and art supplies. I'm sure you could. If the average cost of her shoes is $75, s he would have spent over $6000 on her collection!

For someone who doesn't like shopping much (except for shoes and shirts) I love talking about shoes!

The beauty of shoes, for me, is it isn't a ridiculous excercise to find good quality, comfortable, and attractive shoes that fit properly. (I absolutely loathe buying trousers. Don't even get me started.)

I love the type of shoes that you slide into (what are they called?), because I love sliding out of them when I get home - I'm a big barefoot person! But I also like really sexy black shoes when I go out. I like high heels, I admit - I'm tall to begin with, and it's fun to be taller My husband is 6'2", so I can indulge in heels. My two faves for going out in general (in the winter) are slip-on tennies and slip-on black cute little loafers. In the summer, it's slip-on (as opposed to types you fasten) sandals all the way!

Work:

LOL It's the fastest growing women's sport in Canada. And it's a bazillion times better than (American) football IMO, even though I really love throwing footballs. And England's national women's rugby team OWNS. They own everyone at rugby, they are nearly untouchable. Yes, they even own South Africa and other men's rugby giants.

But back on topic, I think it's relevant that we can talk about cleats. I love my rugby cleats, now that they're broken in. There is a reason I always bought cleats second hand in the past. When I was a kid playing soccer and grew out of my cleats, I just bought the cleats of another kid who grew out of them. The only pair I wore out were my Puma's, because at that point I had stopped growing. I love my rugby cleats... I miss playing.

Hard toe, ankle support without impeding speed (I play back), kick well, replaceable aluminium 2cm (or whatever the max was) long cleats... couldn't ask for better.

I love my hiking boots though. Now that they are broken in, they are the most comfortable footwear on the planet. I wear them as everyday shoes, especially in the winter. IMO, hiking boots and cleats are the only footwear worth putting a lot of effort into breaking in.

Hey Baby-K, I wouldn't worry about your shopaholicness. We all have a hobby. If you start buying duplicates of shoes you already own, then I'd worry.

I have a pair of clogs, but I think the official definition of clogs includes the fact that they must be at least somewhat ugly , and so many of my slip-on shoesies are gorgeous, with lovely cool somewhat boxy high heels, so I hate to call them clogs! I should ask at the shoe shop what they're called. I esp. love my darkish brown pair - nice detailing in the front, cool boxy-pointy toes, and high heels. Great to wear with my favorite brown-flecked wool skirt! I just can't bear to call them clogs

I wear (in the summer) leather slip-on's with, err, no back straps around the heel, I always called these type of shoes mules, (they have a heel of some sort and no back straps of any kind, slip-on ). Now that it's cooooldd! outside I wear hiking boots almost everyday (since I go out in the 'field' to poke around sometimes.

I hate to admit it, but I do tend to collect shoes. This is because I was taught to wear dresses and dress nice for church, which I maintain out of respect (I realize this is a personal mandate).

So, I have several pumps in numerous colors,
sandals,
a black leather pair of flats,
rubber boots for wet and muddy stuff,
and my leather mules.

Oh, and a pair of white tennys for running around in, of course.

I tend to collect cardigans of late
