Question: I thought British law stipulated that a monarch could not be divorced. Wouldn't that cut out Charles all together (along with most of his siblings)? Or am I completely lost?

Hence the Abdication Crisis in 1936. Though apparently, Stanley Baldwin recommended the King should abdicate because not because of public opinion in Britain, but because he was worried that Canada would get upset.
I've been waiting to share that bit of trivia since I heard it I mean - Canada?!

Yep, Falagar, that's right
I don't actually know (and couldn't find out) the rules on accession to the throne and divorce. But .... I wondered though ... if Charles perhaps doesn't have the great problem for marrying in terms of the Head of the Church thing, because although he divorced he no longer has his former spouse living. So whether rather the problem comes in if he wants to marry someone who does still have a former spouse around. But I may not have this right. Anyone know any more? |
