I don't see WW3 happening any time soon over this, but it's definitely not a good situation. When I assigned Ukraine to my students as their topic for a Model United Nations, I certainly didn't expect this.

I posted this as a comment to the Russia/Ukraine situation in a comment to an article in the Times.
The words of Chamberlain "Peace In Our Time" do echo through the decades in the carboncopied agreement between the West and Russia . When I reflect upon the incompetent and insipid chatter of the West as regards to the current acts of Putin it is blantantly apparent that he intends to gobble up the entire former Soviet empire along with the lot of the ex-warzaw-pact countries. He might even, in his powergrabbing madness, take a stab at Finland while the West continues its meaningless prattle and fervent hope of placating the dictator by discussing the situation, since it cant do anything else to "hinder" the expansionist policies of the Russian Leader. |

I really doubt there wouldnt be a serious military reaction of Putin was ever stupid enough to try to invade Finland. But as for whats going on currently in Ukraine, without a willingness from Europe that they will give up their dependency on Russia's oil and gas supplies then you can only have so much leverage. And doing that would really hit Europe hard because its a big chunk of their oil/gas imports.
