Jove is another name for Zeus, iirc. Jove or Jupiter being Roman, Zeus being Greek, I think?

Indeed it is. Which would make 'by Jove' a TRULY old-fashioned curse!

I just thought of Shaggy saying "Zoinks!" and Velma saying "Jinkies!" They did a poor job covering up the fact that characters curse in that show. It makes me wonder what other business they might be into which is innapropriate for children.

EDIT: 1300! A round and unlucky number! I'm signing off for the night. I'm barely thinking straight anyway; I doubt I'm very coherent. G'night all.

I think the coolest thing I ever heard is "crap geezer." It was a somewhat overly literal translation of, I assume, "kuso jiijii". I heard it in One Piece.

One of my best friends has been saying "Jesus Christ on a stick!" That struck me as really funny somehow... Yet it's a little offensive.

I love "by Jove" as it hails from my readings of Sherlock Holmes.

I needed something to say last night and I thought of this thread... I guess that's good. Probably.
