[QUOTEI am only 15 and can name a good deal of major regrets. And no, they aren't superficial. [/QUOTE]

I'm in whatsernames camp here. Regrets aplenty and more every day.

I must have one very odd form of regret, because it doesn't bring me any pain . . . *scratches her head*
Then it's not really regret. Regret is a feeling of sorrow over something that has passed.

More than likely, may I say, you've a more elvish outlook on life (as do I). The draught we drink is bittersweet, but it's taste is better for that.

Honestly, sometimes life breaks my heart. But sorrow makes the joys of life more poignant, and more beautiful.

Aw, crap. I'm doing it again, aren't I? Dylans going to get me good for this poesy.

I regret...signing onto this forum Not J/K.
I regret not seeing through one of my "friends" before she revealed who she was...someone who wasn't a true friend...a gollum in other words. But you know there hasn't been a lot to be regretful about 'sept for some REALLY stupid stuff I did as a kid. But personally I regret the fact that I'm adopted and none of my other siblings are. I honestly wish my history could be different then the one God gave me. And I'm planning on making sure I keep most of my regrets stupid little idiotic things.
Cheers all you intellectual types,
Sam
ps. You now what? I regret having my Backstreet Boys tape being stolen. I liked alot of their songs, better I think than *NSYNC. SCARY people.

maybe that is just a rationlization because we live in the world that we do dwell in.

We can not truly say that life is better or more beautiful because we don't have the experience of live without the BS

a lot of suffering in the world it utterly useless. it does not make people strong. it destroys people, families, nations, men women childern all

more on suffering

"The total amount of suffering per year in the natural world is beyond all
decent contemplation. During the minute that it takes me to compose this
sentence, thousands of animals are being eaten alive, many others are
running for their lives, whimpering with fear, others are slowly being
devoured from within by rasping parasites, thousands of all kinds are dying
of starvation, thirst, and disease. It must be so. If there ever is a time
of plenty, this very fact will automatically lead to an increase in the
population until the natural state of starvation and misery is restored.

A second answer is that God is helping us, through suffering, to become better people. Overcoming pain can strengthen us and sometimes makes us more compassionate. But severe trauma often leaves scars that are never overcome, leading to neurosis, anxiety or depression. And the human price of this "education" is appalling. It is as if a parent were to beat its child brutally, to teach it a lesson in endurance.

Reality is far from loving and merciful. The totality of the cosmos is not "concerned" about each individual, nor even about whole species, planets or solar systems. Galaxies collide. Suns explode as supernovae. Over the history of the earth meteors have wiped out up to 90 per cent of species.
This is not mercy, but it is not cruelty either. The cosmos has no emotions or consciousness with which to feel love or mercy, wrath or sadism.

Suffering and loss makes us appreciate the good things in life. If nothing ever went wrong. . .well, we'd never learn, then, would we?

True, we don't know what that is like, but really. . .just seems like such a depressing outlook on life. . .maybe I'm just a really cheerful person

I try not to think about all my regrets, all the things I wanted to do differently, to much, because if I did I'd go through life very depressed, and regret that in the end. So despite all those regrets, I try to have a more cheerful outlook on life. I'm only here for a little while, might as well enjoy it while it lasts, and try to make some change for the better, because there is so much wrong with our world.

Aelf, my man, homes... ]: ) don't think that I've somehow written off suffering. I'm more determined than ever to make a difference in the lives of people around me.

Yes, God wants to make us better people. But he'll do that however he can, and part of being a better person is that he wants us to love others as we love ourselves. Ipso facto: we are to help everyone to the fullest extent which we can, and mitigate the suffering around us. If that includes suffering with or on behalf of someone else, so be it.

This may sound shallow, but I've spent the last year applying to professional schools (think MBA, medicine, law, dentistry, vet school, or something like that) I don't want to say which because it's a bit personal, although it may or may not be obvious already. I've been hearing back from schools over this last month or so, and I've been rejected everywhere.
I feel so down
I mostly regret that I'm somehow not interesting or impressive enough a person to be considered a strong applicant. I know it's my personal characteristics/profile pulling me down, because my grades are good enough. A combination of the way I was born and the choices I made. As a result, my self-esteem, never very high in the first place, has taken a huge hit.
But when I'm feeling my worst, I regret ever choosing something so competitive. If I had wanted something more realistic, I would have been satisfied. But it's too late because I've sacrificed so much (closed off alot of other options) and have nothing to show for it. I feel like I have no future...
I'll be ok. Bottom line is I'm going to put my head down and try again next year, because I really and truly still want this. My experience this year makes me less optimistic, but this is the only way to get to what I want. I regret being the kind of person that lets self-doubt get the best of them...I'm more down and scared than I've ever been before.
