They do good charity work.
They don't spend the money well (too much corruption) but some of it actually gets to the people in need. Rent is cheaper in Paris; MOVE.

Can somebody tell me more about the allegations that some UN peacekeepers have been "trading sex for food"?

War always hurts the civilians the most, on both sides of the conflict. But the leaders rarely remember that.

I can't believe that after 28 years of doing nothing, Israel gave in and agreed to let UN mixed troops into the buffer zone. UN troops have never solved one conflict and sure as heck have aided a few.

In any case Israel hasn't done such a fine job in solving the situation either IMO. I think in this situation the involvement of the UN is better, even if it's darn slow and tame.

Yes, and the "operation" to free them was a great success, wasn't it?

So ... the blue hatted comedians are turning up eh? mmmm .... will there be spontaneous street-parties do you think? Will it all be over by Christmas? Is this the start of a new dawn for mankind? Is this UN force going to be half muslim and half western? Will it be lead bt british or US (therefore not impartial) . Will it have any power to shoot both sides at the drop of a feather if it wants to? (With air strike capability and gunship aircover?) Otherwise as most UN forces it'll be a joke! I am particularly tired of it being on the news day out and day in - enough already. It does not help anybody to be bombarded with what palestinians did to today and what the isralies did in return and vice versa and so and so on forever and ever and ever.
The greatest mistake the UN ever did was to give the land to the jews. OK - they had been thru hell in WWII - but does that really entitle them to world wide pity forever. And the Palestinians - did they really do anything worthwile in that country they consider theirs except raise sheep. No wateringprojects for the culturing of the countryside, just sitting about caring for their livestock. Am I right or am I right? Last edited by Grey_Wolf : 08-17-2006 at 08:55 AM. |

But I think I may at least expect a westernised, civilised, democratic nation such as Israel to behave better than terrorists. And I see we're going off-topic so that's the last I'm going to say about that here.
