*Ahem* New York pizza! One of the best places is Sal's Pizzeria on Mott St. right next to Chinatown, YUMMY!

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

They are actual factual cities, with mayors and city councils etc. (We have a few 'fake' cities too I'm sure.)

gimli7410, the fireworks are the only thing you like about Vancouver?
What about the Punjabi market, Bard on the Beach, abundant all-you-can-eat late night sushi restaurants, great bus system, fun people, beautiful parks, Commercial drive, Science world, the Capilano suspension bridge, Whistler, Cypress bowl, inclimate weather, beautiful forests, close proximity to the sea and more?

I've never been to the suspension bridge...they take the freshmen there every year during orientation, but I was being reclusive and didn't go.

Robson street, Gastown, Chinatown...

ooo, I've never been to the punjabi market, but yay for Bard on the Beach! Or Pacific Theater. Did you see the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe last month?

Woo, go Melbourne! Not that I actually live there, but pretty close. I think Canberra, the capital of Australia, is the best city I've been to. Everything there is so clean, and there are beautiful trees and plants everywhere. Probably for all the politicians, but it's still great.

Well, the Economist is the most "international" of the newsweeklies; I remember reading in their Christmas issue that something like 40-50% of their circulation is actually in the U.S. compared to about 25% in Britain and 30% in Rest of World- can't remember the exact numbers, but their American readership is far higher than their British.

But they do have a strongly British (19th Century liberal) sensibility.

On ratings like these they're supposedly ranking 'objective' factors like crime, costs etc. , but they do seem to have some subjective ones like risk from terrorism.

Can't say about Vienna, but I know what the climate in Vancouver is like- and anybody that rates the weather in Melbourne above other Aussie cities...

"Hey, it's raining again- give them a perfect score"
Yep, they're definitely English

yah, they are all cities, although maple ridge is the best of them all (gee, where does gollum live ) I wouldnt call richmond a suberb, its pretty big and thats were the airport is. There have been talks about making it all one city, or cities, which would bump vancouver up to number 1 for sure

Canberra's boring. Sure it's clean and has trees and everything's white, but once you've driven around and around Parliament House and all those streets, there ain't much left to do.

Cass, you live so close to Melbourne your city IS part of Melbourne.

Anyone been there? Surfers Paradise...*drool*
Surfers Paradise is disgusting it would probably be one of the worst cities ive ever been to, i was there sometime mid last year but lukily we stayed in Brisbane which is a nice city... Canberra was good but my heart goes to Tassie, it is such a beautiful place, if it was for States Tassie would have to be up there...

Never been to Tassie myself, but I'm pretty close to it, eh? *Wanders out to back of house to fetch a boat, to use in crossing the Bass Strait*.

Brisbane is beautiful, and the nightlife is fantastic too. Full of hotels! Right next to the beach!
What's wrong with Surfers'? It's not that bad.

I'd have to disagree; I'd classify them all as suburbs

P.S. Coquitlam Rules! or it did when I lived there- you're right that these days Maple Ridge is much nicer- last time I was back all the bush in Coquitlam had been totally swallowed by housing.

What a nice size for a city. Actually, the city of Vancouver is about 1 million people. 2 million is for Greater Vancouver, which includes all those other cities I named. (They all border each other, kind of like all the cities of Toronto before they amalgamated.)

That doesn't matter when they are talking about expatriates though. They're talking about British people living abroad - that is all.

Dunedain - New JERSEY pizza. The pizza is found throughout New Jersey, but only really in eastern Pennsylvania and Western New York State.

Anyway - Sansone Brother's in South Brunswick is the best pizza. Dominic's in Piscataway is really good too. I haven't had a lot of good pizza in New York actually.

eh, I don't know of any amazing pizza in NJ.

Some good pizza, but certainly nothing better than any other state.

A lot of good pizza in NY - John's pizza is very good.

New Jersey area pizza is thin crust, cheesy and it's made in pizza ovens - so the crust should be crusty on the bottom. The pizza places in Plainsboro don't have their oven turned up enough so the pizza doesn't get crusty.

Sansone Brother's - they made good crusty pizza, with the cheese dripping off and then they make their own sauce with crushed tomatoes. It's very good.

Jersey Shore pizza is good too. Nothing like eating pizza on the boardwalk with the salt breeze coming off the ocean.
