I'll write another.
Surprising leaf Tall, fair and strong Where none has ever been seen before In these years so long Brought by one who journeyed far And went through things of song My riddles aren't all that subtle, but it's the best I could do. Quote:

All right. I know this is a long shot, but is it Aragorn? "Where none has ever been seen before
In these years so long" sounds like the King of Gondor. Maybe. Or Frodo, first hobbit in the Westernesse?

No. And it was a good guess, it would have been the answer if I was a better riddler. But like I said, my riddles have no subtlety.
Hint: I only threw in "in these years so long" so it would rhyme.

Do not degrade yourself. You are a good riddler. Let me see... Fangorn? Of leaf, in Isengard for the first time, brought by the hobbits who have traveled far?

My mind can't help but wander back to Frodo. Leaf: Longbottom leaf, or surprising leaf: One from the cultivated lands, who surprised the council of Elrond. Tall, fair: "Taller than some, fairer than most." Strong: To have carried the Ring. Where none has ever been seen before: He traveled many places where hobbits had not come before. Brought by one who journeyed far: Gandalf. And went through things of song: The elven lands, i.e. Lothlorien, Rivendell.
But! I have already guessed Frodo, and that wasn't it. So ... Legolas? Glorfindel? (Grasping at straws, as the saying goes.) Ack! Clue? Hintsess, my preciouss? Can we cheatsess? Gollum, gollum. We begsess!

Winter passes, unpassed? Can I interpret this as a never ending winter, or a winter that has never been, or is it just a metaphor? If I'm going for winter unpassing, then Caradhras? Moria? No, you said it wasn't moria? An underground place? Paths of the dead? Okay, Bleached stones, and lightened self (bleached bones?). Is this a place of the dead somewhere? Passing into the west, maybe, since you refer to elves? The mutation of an elf: an orc? This is probably too obvious, but does the last verse refer to the making of the one ring? Anyone else? This is all I'm getting at the moment!

Oops, misread, so winter passes IS moria. Okay, so I'll have to look again at the first verse...

Orthanc! Good job, Beard! (It feels funny calling you that again.) So, Orthanc, Moria: Two key locations. No on both the other bits. Now put them together ...

"I am old, my skin is cold,
Sprawling, I reach, with twisted embrace, My voice the toll of doom. In the dark places, in the gloom, I will secure you in my place." Okay, that's my riddle. I'm not too good at these, so forgive me, my literary sins!

Dreams, visions while you search
Rooted past, lofty perch. Where am I to thine eye? ORTHANC Winter passes unpassed. Call unto them at last. Where now then, my young friend? MORIA Bleached stones and lightened self. Elf, yes, and yet not elf. Who am I to thine eye? ? ORCS ? DEATH? In my hand, in my heart, In the wood, given art. Mastery: what does it be? SAURON/DARK ARTS MIRKWOOD> DOL GULDUR?

Here's another riddle: A shining gem from evening lands, Forever kept away, And then sent back at close of day I think it's tricky, but some of you are very good riddle solvers.
