I have forgotten, is this supposed to be mourning your favorite charactor because they died?

Or is it supposed to be complementing the acting/film work of a death scene which you think is excelent?

I always went for option two. People die who deserve it for plot reasons. And plot reasons should be a good enough excuse for everybody.

I cried harder then I ever have during a movie when Tristien's little brother dies during Ledgends of the Falls. It was so sad becuase Tristen tried so hard and he couldn't make it!

. I cried in Titanic too and I still do when I see it (yeah i'm a wuss) . And I also cried the first time I saw Romeo and Juliet.
Tyler Durden's death in fight club. Tyler is my favorite Charater in any movie of book I've ever seen and though I didn't cry, i was pretty sad. Oh, that was such a great movie! Possibly my faovrite

Have you ever seen the hobbit preformed on stage??? They do Thorin's death brilliantly.... it made me want to cry.

Haldir's death in TTT movie.

Seriously, the deaths that affected me the most were in The Great Escape, when the POW's were killed in the field after being let out of the truck. It was such a shock when I first watched it, and it never fails to move me to tears.

That movie was apparently quite accurate historically, and that particular scene did indeed happen, making it all the more tragic.

P.S. What did you think of James Coburn's Australian accent?

I read the book by Paul Brickhill, and most of it's true. Except for Steve McQueen's character, if I remember correctly. It is my opinion nobody can do an Australian accent properly unless they are Australian.

James Coburn died recently, didn't he? And Charles Bronson.

My absolute favorite Disney movie of all time. I also cry like a baby at the begining and the end during the "Circle of Life" sequences.

I also cry at the end of "Field of Dreams" when Kevin Costner sees his father again and his father goes off into the field with James Earl Jones. I love that movie!

And I really cry at the end of Doctor Zhivago when Zhivago dies of a heart attack on the street after seeing Lara pass by the streetcar he is riding and she doesn't see him. **Waaaahhh!**

The scene that got me in "Titanic" was when Rose died and returned to the ship to be with Jack and all the people who had died before her, not when Jack died.

One of the saddest death scenes was in the TV version of Anne Frank's Diary. It was just so sad. Shows how traumatising it was in those death camps.

Oh yeah! Mufasa! Poor guy. When I watched that the first time in theaters I totally embarrassed myself by crying my eyes out. Poor little Simba. Very sad indeed.

How about Danny in Pearl Harbor. Dolittle's Raid isn't quite accurate, I've heard, but his death is soooo devastating. I mean, he was the sweet guy- why couldn't Rafford get the bullets? Rafe's 'death' is kind of sad too. What gets me in that movie everytime I watch it, though, is thinking of all those poor guys trapped inside the ships as they sunk. How terrifing to be sunk alive, with no way of getting out. Very sad to think about.

Mel Gibson's wife on 'Signs'. Sad. Poor guy hardly even got to say goodbye. Later when his son almost dies is a really dramatic bit. Him clutching his son and Merril trying to say that he thinks he's dead, and poor little Bo looking worried and confused... heartwrenching. Especially when he says "Dad?" and it's like everything just melts away and you're soooo happy he didn't really die.

Beth in Little Women. No matter how many times I watch that potentially boring movie, I sob at the part where Beth dies. It's so beautiful for her to just go when no one's watching, without any of that movie-ish 'please don't leave me' stuff.

I've never seen that, but it sounds great.

Another great death scene I can't believe I forgot:
Rocky Dennis in Mask. That is such a touching scene when she finds him, and all the more sad because it is a true story.

l agree about Haldir! Poor thing! But what about Beast's 'death & transfiguration' scene in Beauty & The Beast ? Why hasn't anyone said that one yet? There's also Denethor's death scene (Which I only listed because I like it). But probably my favorite death scene of a character would be in Jekyll & Hyde, the Broadway version. It's Lucy's death scene. We're currently working on that in my high school & I'm on pit choir.

I think we should list good death scenes even if we didn't like the charactors so much. That's what I was doing.
