I have to say I also love the Princess Bride Westley & Inigo fight, it's so well choreographed, the actual swordfighting was done completely by the tow of them, and it's got great dialogue as well.

'Then why are you smiling?'
'Because I know something you don't know.'
'What is it?'
'I am not left-handed!'

and a bit later...

'Then why are you smiling?'
'Because I know something you don't know.'
'What is it?'
'I am not left-handed either!'

No doubt best sword fighting scene ever!

I like Indy's fight-scene with that sword-wielding guy in Bagdad (I think it was). Apparently it was supposed to be much longer, but Harrison Ford had diaré and asked Lucas if he could short it down a bit...

Now I can't remember which movie it was in , but it might have been nr. 1.

Was that where Indy's opponent is swinging two swords around, and Indy pulls out his gun and shoots him?

I think the best display of choreography was in some kung fu movie, of course. I forget the name, but I'll narrow it down by saying the main character was a cop and master fighter in Japan. And the fight I'm refering to is between him and an old man who uses a metal umbrella.
It's close to the end scene in The Legend of Drunken Master, in the factory, where Jackie Chan actually burnt off a lot of his hair.

Just thought of an old one... from the movie 'El Cid' - Charlton Heston played the lead role.

To explain the setting: The father of Heston's character was killed by 'the King's Champion' - the toughest fighter in the land. The son felt duty-bound to avenge his father, so he confronted the fellow and managed to kill him (this complicated his relationship with the champion's daughter, played by Sophia Lauren - though I imagine lots of guys would like to kill their gf's father ).

Anyway, this made Heston's character the new champion, 'untested' and 'inexperienced' as he was. A rival king saw this as a great opporunity... so he pressed a claim to a certain territory. These claims were apparently resolved by a fight to the death between the champions from the two sides.

So Heston has to go 'in the ring' with this guy... and the other champion comes out real aggressive, just driving Heston back with blow after blow, and Heston can't even get in a swing... and THEN... BAM, the hero gets an opening and stuns the guy and finishes him with a second sword-stroke. So just these two blows, and it's over FAST!

Anyway... don't remember much of the rest of the movie... saw it many years ago, it's VERY long, and I was tired anyway... but this all happens early in the movie, so if it's worth checking it out to see it, go for it!

Awesome fighting scenes in Zhang Yimou's "Hero". I liked especially the duel over the lake.

And also the arrows' attack
