You're not exactly right - he was a commander in Rohan, and was killed in the Pelennor Fields.

Your turn.

Oh... you're GIVIN' me that one? Thanks!

I know some protest against appendix questions (but where else could we put them?). This will obviously be one - but I'll make it easy by doing multiple-choice. In return I ask that nobody look it up:

You may remember that when "Thorongil" (Aragorn) left Gondor, that Ecthelion was still the Steward there, not Denethor. What was the state of Denethor's "family life" at that time...

A. Still single?
B. Married, no children?
C. Married, father of Boromir?
D. Married, father of Boromir and Farmamir?
E. Widower, single father of Boromir and Faramir?

I know some protest against appendix questions [/B][/QUOTE]

It's not that we protest, the guidelines were set down ages ago not to allow the appendix or index for questions only the story.

Sorry - I claim newbie ignorance (and complete, utter unwillingness to re-read all 28 pages of previous posts). If nobody can answer this correctly within 3 hours of THIS post, I withdraw the question and it's an all-comers game.

Logical? Acceptable?

PS: Five guessers would get it real quick!

(and please note - I DID scan the first page or two and saw no mention of that provision!)

Most logical and always acceptable. Not to worry we're not ogres, well not most of the time anyway.

Some of these things get lost in the ether so I just passed on the information to help you before rotten pumpkins are tossed at you.

Rotten pumpkins... Eeeewwww!

Pumpkin pie... Mmmmmm!

But won't you hazard a guess anyway? And where's reliable Radagast?

Widower, single father of Boromir and Faramir.

I've not my books at hand and memory is crowded with many urgent concurrent demands at this time.

I only know as much about myself as my mind can work on under its current conditions. And its current conditions are not good.

"E" is not correct... I guess this IS an obscure-type question - geared just for a history/JRRT/continuity nut like myself

Where's Radagast?

Nope - not A - so I guess we're somewhere in the middle...

(and getting close to my self-imposed deadline!)

It needs to be A. Are you sure? *Checks in his book* Oh! Oh!

My guess is C; though I'm not certain.

"C" is correct! And you beat the deadline by 4 minutes.

Just think: at the Council of Elrond, Aragorn coulda told Boromir, "Hey boy, I bounced you on me knee when you were an infink!" Boromir was 2, I think, when Thorongil left - Faramir was born 3 years later. Their mother died soon after that.

Radagast, take it...

Spock - you're thinking of ents (or mumbling like one!). I think it's in an earlier post:

GORGUN!

Right, that was my next guess.
Think I'd better go take my Valerian Root now.

If I may presume to go ahead and ask...

What's the name of the first forest one would encounter in the trip from Edoras to Mundberg / Minas Tirith?

No peeking at those maps now!
