Ah, the times when I still had time for anything other than school and school. 3 studyyears in 1 plus an internship is slowly killing me.

Holy cow.... allergy attack. O_o Feeling a little bit like I was run over by a train last night.
But I can still sing, so that makes everything better. And at least now even if I can't sing I can practice violin, so huzzah! Allergies put in perspective! |

I don't think anyone heard about it after that - maybe she took it back to Cambridge - or perhaps it fell over board in the storm

On another note, I officially want to make more time/space in my house for sewing. There's a little winter ball coming up and I'm trying to research the best way to hem a silky dress. I've got a mean catchstitch, but I'm wondering if that's the best way stitch to use - I'm for sure not going to try a machine. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Varna, if it did fall overboard, it's lost. Shadow-Narnia was devoured, and what need be there for medicine in the real one? Kinda... bittersweet?
Hmph, I should practice sewing. Wouldn't have to have my Mom make the Assassin costume... After that, I'd like to make a steampunk/aristocrat costume...

Ah, the person you need is Nanny McPh... I mean Sis. She's made a lot of costumes over the years. Too bad she's never around anymore
Good luck figuring it out Midge! I hope it'll look great!

Definitely. We don't know, though - after she uses it for Eustace's sea-sickness, it is never mentioned again. Never used, never missed.

I've only got experience with working with our family heirloom sewing machine. But I'm sure there are tonnes of craft forums around the internet. I reckon if you google 'sewing silk hem with hand', there should be some useful results. It never ceases to amaze me, the things one can find online...

I was wrong. It is used again. Lucy uses it again - and still to aid Eustace - to reduce the swelling of his arm when his bracelet is too tight. Perhaps she left it behind on the Dawn Treader after all, and Caspian took it back to Narnia?

Wow. Hah, I remember my grandmother giving me that bit of advice about honyed words. Haven't heard it since till now, been a while. Who is that quote from by the way? Do you know?

I don't know - I've probably read it on the Internet somewhere (possibly in somebody's signature) and I only quote it from memory. If there was a source given, I don't remember it.

I've heard it before, only with 'sugarcoat' instead of 'honey'.

Same here. I have it needle-pointed on a pillow
Just kidding. But my grandmother DOES.

I'm excited about how this dress is turning out! I thought the mom only wanted it hemmed, but it turned out she got a dress for a ten year old that would rather fit a skinny 16-year-old (I nearly gave a size, but then realized that it would be meaningless for several of you! ).
Anyway, I succeeded in taking in the bust (or rather taking it OUT of the dress), and making the general size of the waist smaller, all without compromising the dress's integrity AND keeping the side-seams on the sides! It's amazing what you can do once you learn a couple of hand-stitches. I may not be doing seamstress-quality work just yet, but the mom is happy!
