I'm disappointed, but not surprised. This is the same director who kept (and is still) passing me over for (paid!) chorus parts with the local opera company in favor of guys who kept bailing out on him and that he knew were lying to him about things.

Come on. I know I'm not incredibly good looking, I don't have an amazing voice, and I'm not a young super talent like those guys but seriously. I'm freaking reliable!!! These guys are always showing up late, exhausted from partying the night before, etc....

I must be doing something seriously wrong. I don't get why I keep getting passed over, and I'm not dumb enough to assume that it "couldn't possibly be me!" I have to figure out what it is that's keeping me from getting roles.

The only thing I can think of is that the other guys are certainly better looking and better singers than I am. I'm not being hard on myself, it's just the truth. But I've always believed that being reliable was more important than those things, so long as you were sufficiently talented to get the job done.

I don't get it.

You don't understand, there are a plethora of gorgeous, talented guys at my school. You may think I'm just saying that, but when we go to competitions.... seriously, we have a department full of pretty people, and we always clean up. At the regional level we take home at least seven or ten finalists, often in the top three, (that's for the entire Texoma region) and at the local level we usually sweep the categories. I think last year almost everyone made at least simi-finals, and many of us took 1st place... in a couple of categories we took the entire 1st-3rd group. In one case I believe the five simi-finalists were all from our school.

I know I'm not ugly, but I have neither the voice nor the face of some of these guys. Two of the guys I can think of off the top of my head have done modeling work. It's a little bit ridiculous.


Pretty... but not very dedicated. I hate them all.

But I'll catch up. The good thing is that, while a lot of them can ride on talent for a couple more years, once they hit the real world their lack of work will catch up with them and they'll quickly be finding other lines of employment. Hopefully my hard work will turn into paying chorus jobs, and eventually full-blown roles. I just wish I'd had more of that natural talent to ride on so that I could compete with the other guys my age right now.

Eärniel, it once took me a whole month to get my router up and running. I had to do things with the machine I didn't know was even possible
I really sympathise with you in your frustration.


Vent: I strongly suspect my cold is a flu. I'm sick as a dog, and it isn't getting any better either, even though six days have passed. I do hope I'll clear the infection before examination day...

a month?! I don't want to wait that long! I already feel computer-illiterate enough. It took me be a bloody two days to get to the second step on my installation guide. I'm not stupid, but darn can these unresponsive computers take you down a peg or two. And now that I finally gotten through the measly three steps it still doesn't work. Whyyyy doesn't it work?! That bloody helpdesk better call back tomorrow.

Anyway, flu's not fun either, definitely not in exam period. So best wishes to get better soon. Take lots of sleep and hot tea.

The manuals rather seemed like instructions of how to hack into Pentagon, but I managed to follow them eventually and get it all working - without any help from helpdesk! *victory dance*

Sleep and hot tea are like oxygen to me now. But I hope my dependency of those will have lingered off on graduation day, i.e. Friday. It's a battle against the clock, to recover in time

Aren't names personal pronouns too? I don't know. I know I'm supposed to know because I'm teaching it, but I can't even get the grammar terms right in Dutch *shrugs* So no, definitely not a grammar Nazi

You seeeeeee a pronoun was made to take the place of a noun, because saying all of those nouns can really wear you down!!!

I'll pull out my grammar book.

Fortunately we don't use any of those terms at the level I'm currently teaching. We barely switched from 'do-words' to 'verbs'.

Don't worry, if I have to teach about it, I can pull out the grammar book a day in advance and memorise the terms, but two days later I'll have forgotten them again. Just like Chinese characters really. Haven't got a head for those either.
