*chuckles* Do you want them back yet? My mum said she was going to kick me out a.s.a.p. when I dared to return after 4 years of living on my own, but now that I've actually moved she misses me and is asking me when I'm coming back (I only just moved here on Friday...).

Just got my first voice student signed up through this youth theater where I'm supposed to teach voice. We'll see how this goes!

went to the doctor yesterday because of a long-ish term back problem i have. finally a doctor who took it seriously and didn't just give me anti-inflammatory medicin! i have an x-ray tomorrow, and yesterday they took some blood samples. maybe i'll finally get to know what's wrong.

and on thursday i'm going on a bear excursion to eastern finland. yay! we should be able to at least catch a glimpse of them, maybe even take some photos (that's the idea)... you'll find out if i did manage to photograph them. :P

so my master's thesis has been approved and graded. finally! i got it back with no corrections, and got an ECLA for it. the grading system is: L (Laudatur), ECLA (Eximia cum laude approbatur), MCLA (Magna cum laude approbatur), CL (Cum laude approbatur), NSLA (Non sine laude approbatur), LUB (Lubenter approbatur), A (Approbatur), so i'm not complaining too much

now i'm just waiting for the papers, and i'll officially be all y'all's master! :P

That's great on both accounts, Nerdy!

Tessar, have fun! Have you ever taken some classes on how to teach anything? And is this a side-job or something?

Gwai, I know, it's great Where are you taking classes now by the way? I got lost on which school you chose in the end.

I'm happy because I'm pretty much fully prepared for classes to start tomorrow! I only have to teach 1 class tomorrow, but so far my colleagues are really nice and helpful. I've almost forgotten all the drama and mistakes I had to deal with before getting to this point

I think my parents are happy they never threatened to kick me out. Of course, by now, it doesn't quite feel like I'm still living at home anymore but rather living with two housemates who happen to be my parents.

Good luck with classes.

Will it be posted from inside the bear as well?
Does the bear have internet connection?

haha, i love that image... XD thanks! we'll be safe, no worries. we'll be sitting in a small hut of some kind, and the bears are quite shy... especially now that they got the licence to hunt 25 bears in that area. >.<

and i'm sure there's a 3g network out there

Thank God. The only reason to go out into the wilderness is to get away from people.... so that you can have uninterrupted internet time.

I was just balancing the checkbook and came across the money for the laptop we bought him ...

But we're making him pay for a good part of it ... Seriously, I think it's not good to just hand them everything. We're definitely helping, but he's getting some loans and working over the summer.

When I was 14 I wanted a tv 'because everyone had one in their own room'. My mum said I could (even though she thought the idea was ridiculous) IF I worked for the money myself. I'm still very proud of that TV, even though it's miniature.
I think that's a good practice.

We almost never asked for expensive gifts when young (for some reason we usually weren't that intrested), and so we didn't have to earn our own money for them, but we 'paid' our part with good grades. The system worked pretty well too.

I still remember when I wanted my ears pierced at twelve, I was only allowed if my monthly school report was good. Of course, I failed a test on geology (who gives tests the first week of school?! And did it have to be a zero?! It's the only zero I ever had and it's not like I didn't get anything right! Not fair!) aaaaand I had to wait a whole other bloody month. Agony! At twelve a month's an eternity. Suffice to say the second report was pretty good.

Yes, I think it's good to have kids work for something, at least sometimes. As parents, we just WANT to give them lots of presents, but it's just not good for them to give them everything.

My son ended up paying for half of the computer - we were going to buy him a PC laptop, but he really wanted a Mac laptop, so we figured out how much it would have been for the one we were going to buy him and just gave him that, and he found a really nice used Mac laptop. I'm totally jealous - I want that Mac laptop!!!! but we just don't have the money for it now. But college kids nowadays really need them.

Yeah, same thing here- they have a work/study centre at the school and being bilingual he can tutor English for younger kids- and tuition is still reasonably cheap here.

I hear it's soared in America, and my sister in England is putting the second of her two daughters through and says it's a lot more expensive than it was, there, too.

We have an influx of UK-students here in the Netherlands, because it's cheaper here.
