Whew. This is bittersweet, but kind of annoying.. but much better than I expected... my GPA just went from 3.9 to 3.73 with the addition of 3 Bs on my most recent grade report. I was expecting at least one C, though (didn't get it), and I still have enough to keep my scholarship, but still.. a drop of almost .2 in a GPA is NOT a good thing.

Oh, well. Just have to put my back into it next semester.

Ugh, I'm glad my education isn't so tied up to grades and averages.
I do not envy you in that respect! >_<

Jummie!

You know what the worst part was? She actually changed schedules again and decided to go out and buy groceries before coming home. So I actually had plenty of time to finish wrapping first and then could have cooked the chicken without rushing, if, you know, she had told me. >.<

Ah, well, one more cooking disaster on my resume. At least the cats don't mind left-over smoky-tasting chicken...

Indeed! But I'm sure you'll get it back up next semester, Midge.

Yeah. I'm excited about next semester, because I get to start with classes that are related to my major! I'm hoping I'll be more interested in those classes than Political Science 101 or English 210 (both Bs this semester).

Dear, don't worry about a GPA of 3.73! That's still enough to get you into most straight-to-doctorate programs!

Yeah... but it's all I can really afford to drop, seeing as I have to keep a 3.5 to keep my full-ride scholarship. Next semester will either make or break me; I'm taking 18 credit hours!

Midge, if you're really worried about your GPA I would suggest you seriously, seriously consider dropping to 14 hours, or whatever your scholarship allows.

Unless you're running out of time on it, there is no point in possibly losing your scholarship just to get through school one semester faster. That's like drowning, and turning up your nose at the lifeguard because you're trying to get to the edge of the pool .

But I know some people can handle it... a lot of the people in the music department take 21 hours every semester in an attempt to get done in 4 years. I think they're crazy, but whatever :P.

Well, my scholarship is a 4-year one, and I've gone through 3 semesters before starting on my major.. I also need to have at least 30 hours, so the minimum amount of hours I could take is 15 because I took 15 this semester.

I don't mind the 18 hours... it's just because I have a Calculus class which is 5 hours and a physics class which is 4 and then I have two CSC classes and freaking PE. I hate those dumb general education requirements.

I'm excited about the classes because I was really good at Math in high school and I love it. I like figuring stuff out. The physics class is computer related, so I'll have three computer classes which will greatly interest me. The only sucky part is the PE thing.

Hm. Well I may not be in absolutely horrible shape.

My plan is to get my undergrad in Music Education. But from there?... I don't really know, now that I look into it more.

If I want to go for a Masters in performance, I may have some trouble since they obviously expect you to have a certain knowledge of some things (like language diction) that I won't have. I also don't know if I'd want to go to a Musical Theater program, or an Opera based program.

Then again it might do me better to try to get my masters in pedagogy, which might be more convenient overall because I could actually stay right here in my home city, and possibly even teach at least part time while getting my masters. One of the teachers at our school is considered a simi-well known researcher on pedagogy, and I could do worse than to study under him.

Either way would mean going into some debt... for a performance degree possibly pretty big debt, but if I could teach while getting the pedagogy degree... I might actually be able to -not- go into much more debt, if any. I'm already going to have to borrow a fair bit to get my undergrad.

ARGH. Dumb money. Dumb school. Dumb future .

I just ate porridge. Yuck! I needed to eat something with fibers though, because the only thing I ate the past two days was a pear.
Gosh, my dad made me my porridge at 5.30 AM. I love my family. And I hate being sick. So there! >_<

I read that as 'guMsmith' and thought that was an interesting word for 'dentist'
The hunting was not fun then?

I'm annoyed with my voice right now. It's fuller and bigger than it was last semester, but it doesn't sound 'pure' any more. I think it's not placed quite right... especially as I ascend above the A#3 my placement must be slipping around some. It sounds okay... it just doesn't have the 'ping' that it should.

Of course this could also be because my muscles still aren't used to trying to support this kind of vocal work, and I know I just need to give it time, but I need to work extra hard on building focus in my tone.

Nope Mari, didn't even go hunting actually. Cousin had to go and break his leg on ice...

But he is okay, and itching with a cast. So not bad.

I really, REALLY need to find some better dictionaries! ARGH! This is so frustrating....

I'm trying to translate my two german art songs, and while the poetic translation is helpful and provides a translation for some words I just can't find... I'm getting more information off of a google translator than I am out of my dictionary. Every once in a which an obscure word will pop up, and my dictionary will have it, but usually google has more of the words I need.

Of course some times both the dictionary AND google give me nonsense, and that's when I have to rationalize out what it could mean based off the few words I can get and their placement in the 'poetic' version.

The only really good thing about this dictionary is that it has IPA for all of the words, but come on... if I can't find the word, the IPA doesn't do me a heck of a lot of good.

I went through a few Japanese dictionaries, and only really huge ones meant for Japanese people had all the words I would want to look up. I <3 my electronic dictionary, it has everything.

Tess, I might be able to help you with the translation. My German understanding is quite good. Just don't ask me to speak it

Katya, not everything you need is on those electric things, but they are great aren't they?
For my thesis I used over a dozen different dictionaries though. >_<
Oh, and I have a paper Kenkyuusha. I <3 my Kenkyuusha! =(^_^)=

I need advice, but there isn't anyone I can really ask for it. Yay me.

I feel like a fish trying to figure out how to fly, and you can't ask the other fish because they really don't know either.
