I'm thinking Aragorn, Frodo and Sam - at the Fields of Cormallen.

Frodo and Sam were not scions of nobility. The setting is on the money though.

As for my yet to be solved riddle, it is not the ocean. It's Middle-Earth.

As for Keith K's: Elrond, Galadriel, and Celeborn, before they parted during the journey west. You know, when they reminescensed (how do you write that damn word?) old times?

But those three didn't come to Cormallen, did they?

I'll guess: Aragorn, Eomer and Prince Imrahil.

I only thought of Frodo and Sam matching the descriptions by the nobility in their hearts.

Hmm. Since the world is mostly water that should translate to me correctly answering the riddle, right?

Righteo! I had never really noticed that the seats were grass before. So naturally I tried to make a riddle out of it. Of course, behind the seats were raised the banners of the three nobles that you mentioned.

I shall now retire into my riddling room to design some new ones for you guys to try.

Not the world. Middle-earth, the continent.

Rats.

(I suppose the "lost one" must be Beleriand. I had keyed in on that clue as being the most important one, and it was giving me fits since being a sibling required being a person. Yet it couldn't be a person, so...

Anyway, nice riddle. It requires abstract thinking to solve it).

Thank you, Riddle Master! It warms my heart to hear praise from the best. Actually, I was thinking that the lost one is The Undying Lands; the way Elves are compared with humans, UL compared to Middle-Earth, respectively.

Forgive me for my lack of modesty - but yeah, I guess it was good. Come on, Master, make new ones!

3 + 2 = 5

Some battles have numbers. There's the Battle of Unnumbered Tears, and there's the Battle of Five Armies. Perhaps this battle should be called the Battle of the Five Deaths, (among other things).

To solve the riddle you must name the dead as well as the battle-site.

The Fashion Riddle

If he wants to walk in style,
a hobbit must tread quite many a mile.

To seek that rarest one to hire
for the 'least practiced craft' in all the Shire.

"The rarest one":dwarf (being perhaps one of the rarest of the Free peoples?), the "least practiced art": craftsmanship/armorer skill?

That is a good guess. However, it is incorrect. The craftsmen I seek are hobbit craftsmen. Nor are they armorers. (I do not think that the craft of armor-making is practiced at all in the Shire).

Do we have to Name-name the dead (like Legolas - chose this because he didn't die), or just say "3 dead orcs and 2 dead Elves?"

They have actual names given by the author. I will take just one name as proof that you know the rest...

The Riddling Room Nursery Rhyme

Where, oh where, have the riddlers gone?
Oh where, oh where can they be?

With their clues all athwart, and their guesses all gone, oh where, oh where can they be?

This is so broad... it could be any number of events!

Oh, I know! It was a battle between the orc-men of Isengard and the people of Bree! 3 big people died and 2 hobbits. Someone.. Heathertoes died... And something apple-something (edit: Appledore!) as well.. I don't know the exact names. Butterbur talked about it to Gandalf and the four Hobbits on the return journey from Rivendell to the Shire.

Well, I've got one. Let's see if I can shed some light on this one too.

Would the "least practiced craft" involve shoes? I can't think of a shoemaker mentioned, though. But it would help the "WALK" in style.. and most Hobbits don't wear shoes due to the thick soles of their feet, so naturally, it wouldn't be a FLOURISHING business in the Shire.

You are correct. Here are the names of the dead: Mat Heathertoes, Rowlie Appledore, Tom Pickthorn, Willie Banks and an Underhill from Staddle. You picked up on the main clue which was 3+2=5. Very well done Midge!

Indeed it would involve shoes. The rare craftsmen I seek are very few and far between. And they are shoe-makers all.

Once again you have reasoned it out from the clues and references given in the riddle. I am very impressed with you, Midge. Well done!

( For those interested this riddle was sourced from the very first page of LOTR. In the Prologue you will find it. In the section titled Concerning Hobbits ).

I have a new riddle just about ready for you guys to twist yer brains over. Fresh from my riddling room. Stay tuned...
