Hrm.
I'll have to work it out myself, but I think it is. Word was acting a bit screwy with it, though, so it might have duplicated some parts. (yes, it was a font. ) Although my calligraphy is pretty good. ]:-)

I think it may have duplicated parts. No wonder I was so confused. - there are extra 'ring' and 'writing' and everything everywhere. *tears hair out in frustration* Your calligraphy is fantastic. |

It reads (in English mode Tengwar):
line 1 - cursive ring writingcursive line 2 - like the ring writing and the actual letters used are: line 1 -k(ur)s(iv)e ri(ng) wr(it)(iung)k(ur)s(iv)e line 2 - l(ik)e (the) r(ing) wr(it)(ing) where things in parenthesis are all in one column (vertically). And it doesn't use the final-'e' dot underneath (in the word "cursive"). Yes, it seems to have duplicated "cursive". IIRC, Tolkien used both open and closed 'ng' for -ing ending - I think he uses open in the LoTR title page, don't remember for sure.

If you are worried about size. Then start your writing small. I use a piece of unlined paper with college lined paper underneath. Then scan and save. Then open it in paint *gag* and save as a jpg. Then manipulate to fit the size you need. Writing small at first saves your caligraphy from warping when you resize it. |

Yes, post your calligraphy - it's fun to see people's handwriting.
And yes, the attachments are ..... frustrating, to say the least I've found jpeg to be the best. But I like those fonts, they look nice.

I don't have a good scanner.
Or calligraphy supplies, for that matter.

That's really pretty Rian.
I'm trying to read it now, but it may take a while as I am trying to post, get LotR pics and do something else simultaneously... Erm... is it in English? Or can I not read for crap? (Probably the latter ) |

Cool, rian.
Are you placing the tehtar on the letter to the right of of where the sound occurs? I've always placed them to the left.

In English and Sindarin, tehtar go on the tengwa representing the sound following the vowel. In Quenya, tehtar go on the tenwa proceeding the vowel.

Or the way I remember it (English mode) is: you read left-to-right, and read any 'stacked' characters top-to-bottom. (IOW, vowel marks over the following consonant, as Elf Girl said.) In Quenya mode, vowel marks go over the preceding consonant, so you read left-to-right, and bottom-to-top for stacks. I like the English mode order better, top-to-bottom just seems to flow better. This also makes the "silent-final-e" dot underneath letters work out well, too. Also the doubling mark seems to flow better. Also the preceded-by-nasal-of-same-column mark.

ps - thanks, Linaewen and WF! That was with a chisel-point pen, but I usually just use a regular pen and like it very much that way, too, often better than with the chisel-point pen.
The great thing about Tengwar is you can write it anywhere, and you don't need anyone else with you. I always have a pen and paper with me, and when I'm stuck in some obnoxious line I can mentally escape for a bit into Middle Earth by doodling Tengwar.

Two comments, only if you're interested...
I think I might adopt your way of final "y" - (like in 'say') - it looks much better than the final 'y' tehta over a carrier, which is the way I'm doing it now.

Sorry, Rian, I can read it now. It was FAR too late for me to be on last night, so my mind was quite stuffed up. Your tengwar is fine, it was my mind that was odd. (Believe you me, I made so many mistakes typing, and I was half asleep)
