The book is really funny! The only thing I didn't like was the end - it got very weird (the "Buttercup's Baby" chapter, with a c-section?!?!) I like where they ended the movie, and that's where I ended the book when I read it to the kids. It's well worth getting the book - I love the descriptions of Buttercup as not quite the sharpest tool in the shed!

(apologies to my fellow rpg-ers for over-using that expression, but it's so funny!)

Ciao, horse-boy! Good 2 see you, too! Want a smoked salmon sushi and some green tea? I'm only here for nine more minutes so I'll leave the edamame and sushi out and all you all can help yourselves. It's a gorgeous day out by the pool this afternoon, too - wish I had time to jump in the pool.

Lotesse,
All of the food you mentioned is welcome. Mmmm...

Rian,
I saw that the book had part of a sequal called "Buttercup's Baby," and I was kinda curious about it. I should see if the public llibrary in this town has a copy of the book.

it was VERY odd, and IMO TOTALLY out of character with the rest of the book

So as I said, I just decided to end it where I liked ending it.

Too bad, because it is really a fabulous book until the very end... I mean, totally weird stuff - a faceless guy, Fezzik falling off a cliff - what was the guy on?!

Rohirrim TR and Lotesse, you guys have just missed each other a zillion times. Your time zones and posting schedules must not overlap.

R*an, I want to read the original book (just the good parts ); are you suggesting I avoid a rather dubious sequel?

You mean R*an [bThe Last Sane Person[/b]?

You should make "Obnovat", in your signature, a link to a picture of him. Just get it hosted at Photobucket or suchlike.

No, it's not really a sequel ...

The whole book is set up very strangely - there's a fictional writer, a fictional country, etc. - it's interspersed with OOC comments by this writer, and fake facts about the fictional country, which are just hilarious! In the version I picked up, it says it's the 25th anniversary version, and that the last few chapters have now been added, but the way it's written, I have no idea if this is just another false fact or not! Anyway, it's just the last couple of chapters, which are kind of presented separately from the whole rest of the book, that are weird. So it's one book - but with a couple of very strange last couple of chapters. It's well worth getting.

Funny you mention him - yeah, just spotted him about half an hour ago. He was sitting in a tree, braiding his hair and singing in Elvish which of course I do not understand. I don't think he noticed me. He seemed pretty deep in thought.

It took me TWO FREAKIN' HOURS - no, actually more than that - to get online tonight, and of course Murphy's Law dictates that when you finally get to log on, all of your mates will have already logged off. Unbe-freakin'-lieveable. When I have to wait forever like this, I like to immerse myself in the poetry section, and copy down all these different classic poems to send to my best friend in prison. I inundate her with poetry. She could publish a "Collected Works of the Greatest English & American Poems" book at this point. Since I like to write her as much as possible, every day if I can, but rarely have anything new to tell her, I flood her with good poetry. She likes it; she loves poetry.
