That's cool. I might be going to Barcelona for Easter.
Though they are speaking Catalan in Barcelona, so I won't understand much of what they say. But hopefully they can understand my Spanish.

I'm sure they can! We went to a school there, and we understood, that catalan in Spain is almost like swedish in Finland. You should go! It's so beutiful...

Don't miss Sagrada Familia and Park Güell!! Before we went there, we wrote a small book about Gaudi's works. It's so worth going there!

Danke, Lai. I am so proud that I’m understanding more and more of your Deutsch. Was machst du gerade? Idag köpt jag min biljett för att se RotK på Fredag med mina kusiner från Sydney.

Indeed. Something like "I am in the holes". Either you're a weirder Derrière Van België than I thought or it needs to be translated semantically.

That ‘Ha, visst’ was uncalled for.

The Aussie is rendering the Swede idle.

You should teach us some Aussie English. You know the accent and all that
I like that idea. Really like it.
Men tack för ordboket.

I can try to teach you the accent, but I’m not sure how.
Want me to teach you Melbourne slang? It’s better than Sydney’s, as I have constantly told my Sydney cousins visiting us.
“Who uses the word ‘slack’ in that context? That’s just stupid. Honestly, you Sydneysiders.”

I'll never be free from that derrière-word, will I? Incidentally have you considered the consequences on using such a French word on a Flemish person? Aren't you a darn lucky Aussie that I don't live in 1302 anymore...

The holes-thing is an expression. It means I'm keeping my eye on you. <-- This one.

Of course not. It rhymes with België. I would consider not using it if you could be convinced that "Aussie" is not an insult. (Unless you're BoP). I don't care. What are you going to do to me, come from België and make me "kwaken"?

I see. And I shall hold my thumbs out for you doing that.

It does not rhyme. In 'derrière' the final -e doesn't get voiced and in 'België', you have a seperate 'i' and 'e' sound.

I don't think Aussie is an insult, I consider it a playful name for Australians. What I'm amazed at is that you made no protests whatsoever regarding the silly part.

Just watch it, missy, when I'll ever get to Australia I'll teach you the true sound of a frog.

Well, I'll pronounce it in such a way that it does rhyme.

I did! Jag är inte en dum australiensare. Nu tycker jag att du är inte så duktig. Kwaken indeed.

I know we haven't had much luck finding similarities between Dutch and Indonesian grammar, but Indonesian used to have some Dutch spelling combinations in it.

Such as - 'tj' being replaced by 'c' (sound: ch)
-'Dj' replaced by 'j' (as per English /j/)
-'Sj' replaced by 'sy' for English 'sh'.

I think you better concentrate on other languages than French then.

What happened then to your habit of pronouncing foreign words in their original pronunciation in the middle of an English conversation, eh?

EDIT: Jonathan, I like your avatar! How are you able to animate it that way?

Nej, för jag bor i öknen.

Just kidding. I certainly have seen snow in real life. Hagel är snö, eller hur?

Just kidding igen. Yes, I have been to the snow in the mountains. But tomorrow, Christmas, I'm going to spend the day at the beach if I can. Yes, I know you guys can't picture that.

Mixed up the Dutch pronunciation, not the French. Only read through Dutch pronunciation info once, a few months ago. And I have a memory like a sieve.

La pluie a fait disparaître tout la neige. Pas un Noël blanc en Belgique cette année.
