Meh, sounds like scaremongering to me. I for one will continue to imbibe milk in tremendous quantities! After all, milk is one of the healthiest drinks there is. Vitamin D is the new vitamin C you know.

Yeah, I don't really care you tell me is in milk; I will continue to love the stuff.

You don't have any food quality labels, a government health organisation that checks milk farms or pasteurised milk then? Odd. But why the USA allows steroids for cattle, I never understood. Most of that stuff is banned in Europe.

I've never heard that the actual milk (apart from whatever other stuff is in there) is actually bad for you. The fat content in it makes it generally unsuitable for young babies as they aren't able to digest it well, likewise for cats. And it sucks if you're lactose-intolerant, otherwise I got nothing.

Oh yes, there's the grand American Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). In my experience they're doing a pretty good job on the drugs side so I'd expect the same on the comestibles.

With our monstrous Belgian Blue cow strains and whatnot, steroids are redundant in Europe

You shouldn't feed cats with cow milk, then?

As for the young babies (one year or younger) the fat content in cow milk is actually pretty ok. It's the high content of protein that can lead to diarrea and even acidosis and kidney damage. But after the first year of life, cow milk is just healthy.

Yeah, they are rather monstrous, the poor things. I'm not a fan of the race. Corsican cows, on the other hand, are awesome.

Not in large quantities, I've been told, it upsets their stomach. Although I suspect this is blown a bit out of proportion by cat milk producers. After all, whole barn cat generations have been fed cow milk. And our cats hardly ever had stomach issues after cleaning out ice cream bowls...

Darn, I was convinced it was the fat content, but I suspect you ought to know best.

Hmmm... I am in something of a quandary. I mean not really... I know what I want to do. I just feel a little awkward about it now.

I was invited to a friend's bachelorette party, and she is one of my most favorite, hilarious friends ever that I goof around with every time I see. So of course I immediately said, "YES!"

But then I found out that apparently it's supposed to be a "girls only" party... Which makes sense . I know Bachelor parties are just for guys, I just didn't think about it till later. But then I figured, "What the hell, it's 2010 baby lets be all PROGRESSIVE." Plus I figured I must not be the only guy she invited.

Now I feel a little awkward about the idea... because she sent me a message on facebook to remind me about the party and to say, "BTW you'll probably be the only guy there." I'm still gonna go. I just feel a little weird about it now knowing that it's a party -meant- for girls, and that I will indeed probably be the only guy there...

... I think I'll just not mention it to my parents or sister. Maybe not their proudest moment if they found out that their son/brother was invited to a girl party.

If I were invited to a bachelorette party, that would worry me. They might expect you to start taking your clothes off.

I did ask. When she told me I would be the only guy I replied, "Be honest: Am I the stripper?"

Any other straight guy would have put this in the Happy Thread.

Vent: ARG! STUPID FRICKEN STUPID BAINGRIDGE F@#$%^&* Island! ^%$*#@! For all the rich, banal old white folk living there, you would think that they would spend a bit more in effort to keep their roads well lit and clean. Outside of the little hamlet that the ferry connects to, LAMP POSTS DO NOT EXIST! and there are huge tall trees standing like two opposing armies during the revolution, blocking out what little ambient light there is at night.

Thus, the roads are blacker than Morgoth's heart at night. Thus I could not see, until it was too late, the bumper that some semi truck lost. That I graciously found for them. With my front tire. With an impressive display of Not-Driving-Into-A-Ditch-Fu, I managed to keep my limping, lopsided car on the road. Once parked, I inspected the damage; well the tire was naught but shreds.

Being the Beautiful Knight in Dented Armor that I am, I was prepared for such an eventuality. Out came my tools, my jack, and the spare. 6 minutes of cussing, and looking for dropped bolts in the gloom, I got the spare on and the dead tire in the trunk. I missed the ferry though, so I had to wait two hours for the next one. Buggering thing.

Now my car is at les schwab getting new tires and a front end alignment. Buggering back bumper... Buggering Island. There goes a large chunk of my paycheck.

Meh. With that logic, a straight guy would have complained about being invited to an all guys bachelors party, which I doubt he would (Although, the prospect of having no female strippers might be something he'd vent about...)
Besides, shouldn't a stereotypic gay man enjoy the company at a "girls only" party?

Sorry about your car, tire and missed ferry, by the way.

I hope you sent the bumper back to the owners with a whack-o-gram?

Tessar, your story reminds me of a discussion we had on another forum I frequent: we have a female-only section but a gay man wanted to be included because he felt more female than male. It was quite a discussion. Sometimes pre-established little boxes are just too easy.
But anyways, I hope you'll have loads of fun!

I remember in my undergrad, I had a friend who was lesbian (she's now dating a man, so I guess not anymore . . . ); we (= me, her, and some of our other friends) thought it would be great if she could live in our dorm, since all of her best friends were guys. Strict uni-sex dorm policies, though.

A linguistic remark: While the Latin prefix uni- most certainly means "one", doesn't unisex actually mean "for both sexes"? Unisex toilets, unisex beauty saloons, unisex names...

Just to get back on topic, here's a vent:
I've sent like twenty Christmas cards but only received one myself. I hope that number improves before Christmas

I guess unisex means 'one' for both sexes, instead of 'two' altogether - or perhaps it means universal, which is often used to mean "all", as in 'all sexes' toilets ...

And then we may have the final word from a native speaker.

Yes indeed. I was just being lazy; "single-sex" is the more common usage.

Indeed... I believe unisex is when two British kids going to University are having sex. But that may just be my personal interpretation.

Dear God in heaven, why do I let myself stay up until this hour chatting with someone? There goes my sleep cycle. Again.
