ic: Dragon: This is a bit humiliating. Tano: Humiliating? Oh man, tell me about it. I'm everyone's fool twice over--even when I'm unemployed and lacking a hat. Dragon: Wha..? Tano: Nevermind. Just tell me about your problem. Dragon: Well...you may know that the Catfishes are quite a strong clan, and we're often at odds with each other. The Catfishes want a good deal of our territory, and while they are not as strong as we are, there are a lot more of them. Tano: So bite harder. Dragon: No...you see...they've challenged us to a chess match for it. Tano: A chess match. Dragon: Yes. A chess match. And the rules are completely insane. No one understands them, including the Catfishes. Tano: So you want us to help you win a chess match? Dragon: Essentially, yes. Tano: Oy vey. Well, hang on a moment. Tano leaves the dragon and walks past the revelers, celebrating their escape from the persuers. She finds the captain's cabin and knocks. EG: What? Tano: There's something I need to talk to you about.... Tano explains the dragon's problem and after much discussion, the captain agrees to take a small side journey... EG: *grouchily* But I'm spending the whole time asleep in my cabin. And Xenioa is spending the whole time getting better. Tano: She won't... EG: I'll make her. Go talk to that dragon of yours. Tano goes back to the dragon... Tano: We're good. I suppose we'll leave in the morning...after everyone's gotten over their hangovers.

Eär: The fact that the captain wants some sleep, the first mate is resting from that ordeal of hers and this. *points to a red badge pinned on her clothes that says: 'In charge'.* Sici: I see. well, that makes sence. Eär: Good. *to dragon* Alright, you lead the way. And incidentally it would be easier if you could give us a rule book for this chess-game. dragon:*carefully* I don't think you really want that... Eär: *slightly testy that her command is questioned* Of course I do! Dragon: Very well, but remember, you asked for it.... *The dragon hauls out a giant man-sized book and gives it to Eärniel. The Sea-elf, however, finds the book weighs a tiny bit too much for her and falls backwards. There is a crash and now a very thick book rests on the deck. Two feet and a bit of blonde hair stick out from under it. As the crew comes closer, they hear a very faint voice coming from under the giant book saying: "Okay, this is going to be slightly harder than I thought......"*

Katt: Chess? I like chess. I remeber this one chess game. After one move the pieces went flying. I got a nasty cut on the cheek from a queen, but at least my head was harder than the chessboard. Ah, there's nothing like a good game of chess to really get your adrenilin pumping.

Luthien: Why are you talking to yourself? Eärniel: First signs of schyzofreny. But we're okay now. Luthien:.... Tano: *points* Look there! *the crew runs to the railing and see a strange construction rising at the horizon.* Dragon: *proudly* Ah, that's the chessboard! Eärniel:*swallows* *The construction is apparently build on water, floating on the waves on giant buoys. Given that the chess match is between seadragons and catfish, this seems the most logical place to hold it, seasickness of the chesspieces notwithstanding. The construction consists of large platforms that seem to have been welded at one another rather randomly on different heights. As the drunken Elf-pirates steer the Nal closer, the real size of the construction becomes evident as it looms over the ship and seems to dwarf it. Around it are swimming large groups of seadragons and catfish.* Dragon: *to other dragons* Hey guys! I brought some people who are going to help us with the game. And no, they're not for snacking during the breaks! Eärniel: mommy...
